Many thanks to GM and Cleveland / Srixon for a fascinating day at Brocket Hall on Thursday. I was one of sixteen lucky guys who were selected to take part in a short game experience day hosted by Cleveland / Srixon.

We were given tuition on bunker play, pitching and chipping using some modern techniques and to top off the day we were all custom fitted for two Cleveland 588 RTX 2.0 wedges, it turned out to be a fantastic day.

The wedge fitting was very good, I've never been fitted for a wedge before only irons and driver. Cleveland have a cart where they can screw a number of different shafts on to a number of different heads to find the best combination for you. They not only got us to hit shots on the range but also in the bunker and pitching to a green to get the correct bounce. I ended up with 54 and 58 degree standard bounce wedges with Nippon NS Pro WV 105 wedge shaft.

We handed our specs to the guy in the Srixon tour van and they made up our wedges while we had lunch. They were all ready for us after lunch and we went off and played a few holes on the par 3 course. A very interesting and enjoyable day, many many thanks to GM and Cleveland / Srixon. I'm looking forward to using my new wedges and new short game techniques.

I am now an ambassador, well that is what Ben Davies from Cleveland/Srixon said, and I am very happy to be so.

As someone whose short game woes and travails were making the game less and less enjoyable I was delighted to be selected as one of the participants.

Obviously the prospect of being given two free wedges was an attraction but I can honestly say that the greater appeal was the coaching on offer as Cleveland had arranged for three specialist teaching pro's to demonstrate to us in groups of four techniques for the problem shots; chipping, pitching and bunker play.

These techniques were based around the "linear method" which contradicts much of the existing method. I appreciate that it may not be for everyone but to me it makes so much sense to be addressing the ball in a way that allows the club's loft and bounce to assist rather than the "hands forward, ball off the back foot" theory which must effectively reduce those two features.

Clearly Cleveland are very serious about addressing the problems that all golfers might have with some aspects of the short game and they certainly appear to be going that bit further with their custom fit for wedges.Their interest is understandable when you realise that for nearly all of us 65% of our shots are from within 120 yards of the flag, not called the "scoring zone" for nothing!

On top of that the 588 RTX 2.0 range are pretty cool in any event, I would seriously recommend you check them out if you are looking for new wedges.

So many, many thanks to Ben and all the Cleveland/Srixon guys, to the pro's John, Andy and Darren and to Mike and all the GM crew for organising what was truly a fantastic experience.

Sounds yet another fantastic GM opportunity and a great day. I need to look at my bunker play in particular so could have done with the expert tuition and chance to use some new wedges for the job.

Since my Wedge fitting at Studley wood and the help from Srixon fitter my bunker play has been very much improved. Definitely worth the opportunity of fitting for wedges as I would not have chosen the spec that was specified during the fitting.

I bought Gary Smith's App which was, I think was £5.99, for iPhone iPad covers the Linear Method Bunker Play, Pitching, Chipping and Lob Shots, which I have found to be excellent and good value for the instructions given
