Hi, new member here, making a (late) return to golfing after a hiatus of nigh on 40 years believe it or not!

My son got me into it again as he decided he'd like to give it a try so we've been down the local range on a regular basis for a few months now and as my left hand was getting sore (but I think its hardening off now) I asked for a glove for my recent birthday.

So, next session, I wore the new Titleist Players glove and after about half a basket of balls, the leather has sort of torn on the lower inside of the palm opposite the thumb about the size of a 20p piece, its not worn completely through but the top layer (skin?) has started to come away.

So, my question is, is this due to my grip or is it a defective glove?

I'm hitting the ball fairly well just getting a few slices!

Thanks for looking!

Welcome to the forum :)

Usually one of 2 causes, either you are gripping too high up the club causing the end of the grip to rub in the palm. If this is the case try gripping down the shaft 1/2 an inch or an inch so that you have a clear piece of grip above the top of your grip. the other possible cause is that at the top of the swing you are effectively regripping the club, and its this slight slip of the club then regrip at the top that is causing the glove to wear. If its this try to focus on feeling that all your fingers are holding onto the club throughout the swing (without strangling it)

Welcome along Jim :)

You might be holding the club a bit too much in your palms rather than in your fingers. Maybe try getting a pro to have a look at your grip (and maybe alignment and posture). Getting your fundamentals right is big step in the right direction

Hello Jim and welcome.
Grip the club about one inch down from the end of the shaft and grip with your fingers not your palm.
You could also be gripping too tight.
Take your normal grip and check if there is any tension in your forearm muscles.

Good little practice tip is to tape your right hand pointing finger and middle finger together and also tape your left hand pinkie and fourth finger together. That helps to prevent your hands moving whilst swinging.

IMVHO if you have a good grip you do not need to wear a glove.
