Just received an email form Gleneagles offering a 4 ball for £200 on any of their courses from now until end of April next year.I think the offer is superb and we are going to book last weekend in April (in the hope for some nice weather). Anyway my question is what is your thoughts about the place and what course would you recommend? My brother wants to play the ryder cup course can anyone share their experiences? Thanks :)

we were thinking of going one afternoon next week. The opinion of my mates who have all played there before is the Ryder cup course is the 4th best in course Auchterader.

We are planning on playing the Kings

let us know what you think? what course you playing?

That's a great deal, they used to do something similar years ago only on October weekdays. We paid £32 to play the Kings then drove over to St Andrews stayed over and played the New course.

I've only played the Kings so I cant really comment about the others but I believe
the Kings is the highest ranked of the 3. I don't think you can go wrong though, certainly not at that price.

It's a great deal. I played the Centenary course the April before the Ryder Cup and it was in pretty dire condition to be honest with you. I'm sure it's in much better condition now. However, it was heavily sanded, large parts of fairway had been replaced with new turf and it took away from the experience slightly.

We all came away thinking that they had one hell of a job on their hands to get it ready for the Ryder Cup. There had been a lot of rainfall, which hadn't helped, but if I was to play again I would be looking at the Kings.

I played it last year with a past captain. He prefers the Kings course then the Ryder cup course, but I enjoyed the Ryder Cup course, I think starting with 3 birdies had something to do with it. The views are just spectacular. No matter which you play it's an amazing place and I'm sure you'll enjoy it.

Played all 3 courses, The Kings is certainly the best in my opinion.
It's good to play the Centenary course purely as an experience, it's a very long modern course.
The Queens is also a great course and you won't be disappointed with that either.
Great deal.

I haven't played the centenary course since way before they remodelled it for the Ryder cup but, back then, the Kings was definitely the better course.

Saying that, next time I go it's the centenary course I hope to play!

Cheers for the replies however our kid set on plying Ryder cup one ( it is his birthday so guess will have to stick with that )

however will see about playing one if the other courses the following day as we are up for a few days !

on a side point do you get given any freebies as such? As when we played up at the old course we were given t-bags ( tees, pencil and pitch repairs) and yardage cards or even a nice bag tag ?

Wow, that is some deal. I was up there last month and wish it was on then. The fee's were crazy and whilst we stayed on the estate, we didn't play the courses. If anyone is travelling and wanted a cheap game on a lovely little 9 hole course, I'd recommend Comrie. Everyone I spoke to said to play the Kings and Queens at Gleneagles. The Ryder Cup course isn't half as good.

The hotel is very grand. of all the restaurants on the estate, I'd recommend the Dormy clubhouse. The Century Bar and Auchterarder 70 in there were top quality and great value. Deseo in the hotel was just an overpriced Italian (but the steaks were great).

I'm sure we got stroke savers, pencils and tees from memory. You also got free balls for the range before hand.

Played the PGA yesterday and its still in good condition & like people have said defo worth playing, the Kings is probably in the best shape at the moment. Thats the one we play most.

I last played the Kings about a week before they held the Ryder cup. Got stroke saver, tees etc but also a gleneagles Ryder cup bag tag IIRC.

You get a strokesaver and the starter has Tees for you to take.
