I "won" a fourball at Gleneagles in a silent auction and just have to let the person that donated the prize know what course I want to play and when. I've never played Gleneagles so I'm looking for a bit of advice on what course to play? I fancy playing the Ryder Cup course but does anyone know if the face-lift is done and whether its in good condition?

Thanks in advance

Haven't played centenary course, played both the Kings and Queens, thought both were fantastic, Kings slightly longer and more of a test.
Kings would be my choice.

Don't think the PGA centenary is ready however for me if you want a challenge play the Kings, if you want a leisurely game play the Queens, if you want a slog play the PGA. The 18th on the Queens is a picturesque finishing hole.

All 3 are great, Gleneagles itself is a great experience.

Lucky enough to have played them all last year. My order of preference is
1 - Kings
2 - Queens
3 - PGA

The PGA gets some tough press, yes it can be a bit of a slog but I wouldnt knock back a free round on it tomorrow. Would be interested to see the re-designed 18th

The Kings and Queens are more mature and better golfing test

Get up there early to use the practice facility, then enjoy some great scran and a pint in the Dormy after your round

Enjoy !

I've only played two, the PGA and the Kings.

The kings is a lot better, each hole is secluded, whereas with the PGA you can see lots of other parts of the course.

The kings 18th green is massive though, it felt like 2 18 yard boxes put together, and it was a blind approach from memory.

Kings every day of the week. I don't like the PGA course it doesn't flow for me, and its to long between green and tee. That was one long day playing the PGA course.......

The PGA isnt open yet, due end April beg May I believe, what it will be like or what condition it will be in is anyones guess.

The queens is beautiful, some lovely holes and still a good test. The Kings is stunning and the 'King' of the 3, off your handicap I'd pick the Kings.

Wait until June to play as it will be in immaculate condition by then.
Agreed re the comment about getting there early, enjoying the atmosphere and practice area with free tea/coffee/hot choc and have a cold beer on the veranda overlooking the 18th on the queens when you've finished.

I was there at the weekend and the PGA,as said, aint open.....more the luck for you.

Kings is fantastic,Queens is nice but I have to say I was a tad disappointed in it when I finally got to play it last year but it was drookit so that possibly clouded my judgement.

I had the chance of a game on the Kings a week on Saturday but sadly had to turn it down.:(

Another vote for the Kings. Played both the Kings and Queens last year, really enjoyed the Queens as it was a bit shorter and easier for me (beginner at the time), but if I had the choice again it would be the Kings all day.

I have played both the Kings and Queens courses, would recommend both of them, but my own preference is the Kings.
The experience of the whole place is fabulous, you will really enjoy your day.

Only played the PGA and wasn't really that impressed. Some good holes but not many. If that course wasn't at Gleneagles or under the Gleneagles banner then it really wouldn't get the same accolade.

Definitely the King's followed by the Queen's.

The Centenary is a slog and totally underwhelming just like the other Nicklaus courses I've played.

its been revamped for the Ryder cup, agreed re some very boring and dull holes, hopefully the new PGA will be a much more enjoyable affair.

Darth ... can't remember who's doing the re-vamp but saw the proposed changes to the final hole on the telly a while back and it looks as though it will be a much less bland-looking finishing hole. As far as I can remember, soil was going to be shifted from the approach area to create banking to the rear of the green thereby lending greater definition. It should look quite different to what it was. It's likely still to be a long pull up the hill though!

they've shifted tonnes of earth so from the corner of the dogleg its now at the same level of the green which has been lowered by about 30 feet and surrounded by bunkers.........heres a pic on my twitter feed

Thanks for the link Darth. The banking to the rear is a great improvement and should lend itself to providing a more 'into the cauldron' type experience for the RC players.

Bring it on!

agreed its better, however what I think will happen is anyone who cannot get there in 2 will all end up in the bowl like area 100yds short of the green and it will become divot hell! Looking at the green theres no real advantage going for it in 2, theres lots of bunkers that gather the ball in, and the green has 3 run off areas that will take the ball downhill from the 'upturned saucer' green shape if you actually land on it.
Good for match play but.................
