The last few years I've been trying a lot of different malt whiskies, as discovered it wasn't as harsh as the blended ones I tried, and rejected in my youth.

Not an expert, but trying by tasting in the main, and tried a glayva whilst away on business.

My god, it was nectar, topped off with ambrosia. I've only since found out it is actually a whisky licqeur (whatever that is).

What do whisky experts think?

Never tried it, but I will now. If you like a gentle malt try Dalwhinnie, Auchentoshan, Glengoyne or Tormore if you haven't already. I am no expert, but I do like these.

The Glengoyne is VERY gentle but still very nice. Give me a nice Islay Whisky, with Caol Ila being my tipple of choice when the purse strings are loosened enough...

Another thumbs up for Glayva, Drambuie and Dalwhinnie. In contrast, I once acquired as bottle of Ardbeg - alcoholic tarmac.

Glayva is a bit sweet. It tastes even worse when it comes back up which I experienced one unfortunate evening. Drambuie is like Glayva, one is nice two is sickly in my opinion.

Gimme a nice Speyside Malt over an Islay any day.

Yes, I can imagine if you had 4 or 5 it would be a bit sickly, but one was great.

Not a big drinker in the house, but told the missus to get a bottle.
