Thinking of going somewhere for 3-4 days... can use a few days off. Never tried glamping. Dont really want to go to a place and cook & clean.. So looking for something fully catered (or have access to local eateries). Definitely needs to have loo and shower - dont want to go in a pot or hole in ground. Too old for that.

looking for something in the Dorset - Cotsworld- Hamps, East Sussex type of area. Definitely avoiding London. All suggestions and opinions welcome (incl non-glamping ones)

The word is camping! It may have its own toilet (possibly) and electricity (maybe) but it is still a tent in a field. Spend the same money and get a decent B&B

That is where my head is at the moment... but trying to see if folks had a different view

My wife keeps trying to get us booked in to one of these 'bubble lodge' places, looks really nice and a bit different, just need to wait on prices getting a bit more realistic first

what is a bubble lodge? i have tentitvely booked a high street name hotel in Plymouth tbh.. i could do with something different

A bit further than you wanted, but I stayed at The Hen's Dens in Devon, a few miles north of Torquay a couple of years ago and can highly recommend it. Timber pods with your own fridge, toilet and shower in a nearby block. Very quiet. Very scenic. 15 minute walk to the nearest pub. Loads of pubs within a short drive.
Dainton Park GC is a 15 minute drive.
Teign Valley GC is a good stop, on your way back.
Now I've thought about it, I'm going to have to go back this year.

I guess there's various models but basically very open bubble rooms to see the view/sky etc but still private in the areas its needed

All the downsides of camping with the cost of staying in a proper building.

Glamping.... a method for grossly over charging townies to stay in a shed! :ROFLMAO:

An alternative for folk who also now say,

I am getting an "Airbnb
"... somehow that's better than booking a guest house!

I am getting an Uber...
somehow better than saying "I'm getting a cab!" Or "I am potentially getting in a badly maintained car with a driver who hasnt had his ID and background checked and is screwed if the satnav fails!

We bit the bullet a long time ago and have the biggest tent you have ever seen and all the gear. Its mega.

We use pitchup.com to find where to go and we only have a couple of mandatory site requirements:

Toilets
Showers
Dog Friendly

Outside of that, embrace it! My kids love running (More) Ferrel!!

I've stayed in a pod on a couple of trips. Good fun and a bit different. Sorry, can't help with a recommendation for where to stay but I am happy to defend your choice of style of holiday :D.

The rest are just miserable :p

For those of us who are inclined to be a bit lazy, it's a great way to remove the option of sitting around indoors doing nothing. You can still sit around doing nothing, but you have no choice but to do it in the great outdoors.

Have a look at The Fish near Broadway in the Cotswolds - you can stay in Treehouses or huts with all amenities close to hand. We stayed a few years back and would recommend.
