Did anyone catch the BBC program on Ginger Baker this evening? Really interesting nutcase of a man. Clearly a true musician! And some other things too...

Fantastic drummer and visionary, probably the best ever.
Seems wrong that as a drummer he was unable to obtain any copyright, but Bruce, as a bassist could.
I can understand some of his bitterness but he still comes across as a horrible person.

Bruce, Baker and Clapton were brilliant for a couple of years.

He came over much worse than anyone I've seen interviewed in years, in fact I turned it off and went to bed after 20 minutes. Cream were a fantastic group though!

Fascinating documentary.
He's got some serious issues ............................ yet I really warmed to him, somehow!
He might be broke but he can still afford about 5,000 fags a day!
A serious talent though.

This is exactly how I felt about it. Also I think what he said was he was the most broke he had been.... Not that he was broke. He seemed to get and spend money like water his whole life...

I think Cream was a small part of what he did.

I remember Mark Kermode giving the doc a good review, saying he was mostly a despicable human being but it made for a fascinating documentary. Not a fan of the music in any way but I've taped it so looking forwards to watching it.

I'd place one or two above him,but purely based on personal preference. The guy was a phenomenal drummer....might still be one tbf. Definitely at (or very near) the top of any list imo.

Genuine question for debate, who would you place above him?

Or do we need a separate thread for that…..

Vinnie Colaiuta top of the list for me, I'd have Gavin Harrison up there as well. Need I even go near Rich and Krupa lol?
I like the african/tribal stuff Baker did but I think he's been surpassed by many drummers since. He's still a great though.

Keith Moon once said " A Drummer is a Psychopath Who Likes Hitting Things"

Mr Baker fits the description perfectly. Several boxes of frogs would be needed to gauge his madness

Good documentary though
