getting up and down out of a bunker.

At Woodhall I am just happy to get the ball out of the bunker :D

hope to hole at least once in a round (if I'm in any bunkers). In the real world if it comes out as planned I'm happy, down to the putting after that and that's abysmal just now:(

Probably one of the poorer parts of my game - though getting out isn't.

However, in the last 3 rounds, I've only been in 2 bunker and they were both GUR - one being rebuilt; one designated!

I tend to consider bunkers more than other guys I play with, preferring to club up to avoid them. Not sure whether I avoid them because I play them poorly or I play them poorly because I avoid them! I have been known to practice bunker shots, but last time was probably 7 years ago!

When I could play it was my strongest point.
Makes a huge difference to your confidence if you know that you can generally get down in two shots from a greenside bunker. Or even hole the occasional one.
One of the easiest shots in golf and yet probably the one that few golfers master.
Ask yourself if you have ever had a lesson or practice bunker play?

I seem to do better from a greenside bunker than a greenside chip usually. Find it easier to commit to the shot and stop the ball from the bunker.

I aim for 50% as this is a great return for an amateur golfer imo, my figure will be lower than that but im happy if I hit 50%.

If I remember right tour pros only get up and down around 60% from (all) bunkers so will be interested to see what the forum pros do :D

Agree with all of the above. I would say bunker play is one of my strengths but if I were to go in 6 bunkers in a round, would expect to make 3 pars, anything more would be a bonus. If the bunkers are half decent though, will back myself to get up and down as many times, if not slightly more, than a chip from the rough from a similar distance.

10% of the time I reckon. Not the best best of my game by a long chalk. Chipping from off the green is marginally better.

How often do you get up and down (make par) from a greenside bunker or even a fairway bunker?

Had an interesting game on Saturday, where i went in a fair few bunkers, but still mad par.
fairway on 1st, Greenside bunker on the par 3, 6th and again made par. Again on 13th and 14th and 18th for birdie

I don't think ive ever managed that before!!!

I really struggle with greenside bunkers, I thin it out of them quite a lot.
Definitely need a lesson in the next month before the season starts.

Since my lesson with Bob last year I get out of greenside bunkers pretty much all the time now. What I need to work on is the right club to use for the distances but I am waiting for it to be a bit drier on practice area before I do that.

I am so much better since Bob changed my technique to use the same swing for every shot and change clubs to alter distance.

This could be fun :D

Can anyone beat the current best claim of 70%?

Mine where all thanks to the Green keepers on Sat;) they hadn't been out and raked any of them so you wer;nt plugged in the face asis usually the case.

At our place, its get it out and dont worry how.

The Deep pot bunkers we have its just get out and give yourself a chance of par with a put... you never know.

From a green side bunker I'm aiming to get out onto the green and 2 putt. If I make par then that's a bonus but I certainly do not expect it.
We don't have any fairway bunkers, when I've played courses that do I typically expect to advance it to near the green and have a chip and a putt for a chance at par. Depending on the lie and height of lip some FW bunkers aren't much of an issue.

Was in 4 this morning and not one up and down,in fact I left 2 in the bunker.
I know green keepers have got it tough sometimes, however our bunkers have gone from
one extreme to another.
One minute no sand, now weve had the bunkers done, about 6 inches deep.
Im sure it should be about an inch and a half?

I hear you, our lot rake all the sand up the face so the ball just plugs, only reason a got out of most of hem on sat was the sand had settld and the Greenkeepers had been owherenear them;)

Some days the bunker shot is there and some days it isn’t! I would say up and down about 30-35% of the time over the course of the season.

The quality of the bunker get me a lot, if there is little or no sand then keeping it on the green is an achievement.
