As a bank manager turned photographer I have to take what work comes along. When it's golf, it's a bonus. When it involves an 8 times Order of Merit winner it's brilliant. I was at Slaley Hall yesterday where 12 fourballs paid £750 to play a hole with Colin Montgomerie, attend his clinic & listen to him & Dougie Donnelly talking about the Ryder cup. I've been lucky enough to photograph quite a few celebs in my new career but don't normally trouble them for a photo. But Monty, like Kevin Keegan, was so nice I didn't hesitate.

Great day, and I got paid! https://www.flickr.com/photos/92076888@N08/sets/72157647825424060/

I got an email through about this and it looked a great concept. Blimey it was a lot of money though. Great time to meet him and the weather yesterday was fantastic. I am pleased it went well.

I have a lot of time for Colin Montgomery- one of the best golfers this country has ever produced.

I have met him and he is a thoroughly decent person and exceptional in company, his knowledge of the game is vast and he has valid opinions but doesnt force them on others.

As someone who only registered here when there was nonsense being spouted on the referendum thread it saddens me to have read the torrents of abuse he receives on this golf forum so often and from supposedly golf fans.

its delightful to see a positive thread on one of our great sporting heroes and ambassadors.

He was absolutely brilliant yesterday, endlessly patient with the players and gave 100% the whole day. I did another one of these some time ago with Sandy Lyle, Monty was in a different class.

I think that is a bit harsh, I wouldn't say he receives 'torrents of abuse', more that people don't rate him as a commentator. He has a very irritating habit of saying everything twice in the same sentence which can really start to grate on the nerves after a while. Nobody (that I'm aware of) has said anything personal about him, his achievements as a golfer are very well respected on this forum.

I've met him a couple of times and he's been fantastic company and a different person entirely from the irritable grumpy sour puss that use to parade the fairways. Great fun and very dry with
