Getting Files Back

So...I bought a new TV the other week, my first EVER!!!!!!, and it has a USB port. Hmmmm I can put my external hdd in it and read the files direct. I tried a usb memory stick first. Worked perfectly. Great. So I stuck the external hdd cable in and.......it did something to the files and I cannot see them now. When I put the hdd on to the laptop the files are showing as 0KB. I downloaded some free software that was supposed to "partition" the lost files..which it has, they are all still there.
BUT HOW DO I GET THEM BACK?????????

Software was Find and Mount.
I've also tried easus to locate them. They are, again, showing as there, but no instructions of how to get them back.

I've sorted it. Just got to find some storage space on other drives to recover the stuff to. But I've already saved the bits I wanted.
