Today I visited a Pro in Stirling who had a look at my new Cobra Forged CB irons and put some finishing touches to the spec.

I was thinking the lie angle needed changing and perhaps a wee haolf inch added to the lenghth of the shaft. What I found out was quite surprising:

My swing speed on a 180 yd 6 iron was 77mph. I thought I was swinging it like Tiger and was going to be told I need Rifle 6.0 shafts but NO, I am a puny REGULAR shafter.

My lie angle was spot on and the centre of the impact tape went after 6 shots but the most surprising thing was ...

MY GRIPS !!!!!!!!

I had standard Cord Cobra grips on my clubs and have been informed that if EVERY club golfer had the correct grips fitted to their clubs they would save THREE dots on their handicap in their 1st season. I am now having JUMBO grips fitted and to be honest it explains a few things.......

Have you ever hit a drive and the club has twisted in your hand? According to this Pro it could be your grips are too small and your hands are gripping each other and NOT the club.

Try it. Go and see your Pro or any Pro for that matter and ask the to look at your hands and recommend a grip size and put NEW GRIPS AT THE TOP OF YOUR CHRISTMAS LIST.

i was at the range today with one of my buddies and nicked a couple of his clubs to have a swing. He has mid size grips on his clubs and i noticed a big difference over the standard grips on my clubs.
His old man has jumbo grips they are like gripping a smoked sausage!! :D

I had a couple of layers put under my grips a few months ago and have noticed a huge difference in comfort if not performance.

I've just had my spare set re-gripped because I'm thinking about going back to them (yet again! after 3 attempts to get on with other stuff).
I specified standard as I've been finding the mid-size on my current set a bit too big. I have quite small hands...so I prefer the smaller grip. It is true though that most get on better with at least mid-size.
I'll report back on the results....

Dave

I have mid-size grips fitted to my clubs, it makes a huge difference. Certainly helps you to grip the club softer, when you have a bit more girth to get your hands round!!!!!!
