Gerrards Cross GC

I was a member at GX for a few years. It is not a long course, but a pretty interesting and challenging one for its par of 69 at just over 6000 yards, and if you beat your handicap you have played well.

It is an older style course with natural elevation changes, normally good greens and a chance to play most clubs in the bag. Hitting fairways is the key, although some holes demand an approach from a certain side of the fairway. Buy a course planner before you go out.

The standout holes for me are the 2nd, a strong par 4 which sweeps from right to left off a high tee, the 4th, a dogleg right to left with a camber away from the shape of the hole and a partly hidden green, the 6th, a drivable par 4 where you can get in to trouble if you are not careful, the 10th, a par 4 with a gentle sweep from left to right to a tricky green, the 13th, a par 4 with a second shot downhill to a tricky green and the 18th a sweeping dog leg right to left down the hill with a second shot over the river. You bite off as much as you can chew here and can end up with anything from a wedge to a fairway wood for your second.

I have played club matches against GX. I like the course. Not so keen on the first hole, but the 18th is something you don't get every day. I'd play it tomorrow happily.

Ye I am a local boy and have played GX a few times. It is known in the aria as being pretty snobby but I have not felt that when I have been. Pretty course but not one I am dieing to go back to but I don't think its majorly over priced at £50.

Enjoy

Any other courses you would recommend at having a look at aswell around that area?

Around £50 and under would be ideal.

I used to live down that way when I was a kid in between Fulmer and Iver Heath near to Pinewood Studios. The club in the area that I would love to play would be Beaconsfield. My dad used to be a member there and I used to walk around with him when he played against my now passed granddad. Would love to actually play the course myself to see what memories it brought up.

Beaconsfield is a lovely course, I played it last year as a guest of a customer who is a member and also played it in december with my Golf Society.

If its good enough for Luke ......etc

Other nice courses ( if you can get in) are The Lambourne Club, Denham, Harewood Downs, Moor park isnt far either

Fragger

Beaconsfield is very nice. Stoke Park is another course worth playing.

If you want a cheap place try Oakland Park. Short course but has really top quality greens.

Drove past Gerrards Cross on Thursday last week on my way to work and seen a few guys out playing. The first thing that crossed my mind was " You jammy dogs!"

Have an invite to play Denham, my old boss is a member there and he promised me a round when I recommended someone for his new company.

Anyone played it? worth chasing him up on it?
