And for those of you thinking of who to vote for in autumns election, remember that the Tories have twice put the interests of their party before the interests of the country. And screwed it up for the county both times. IMHO.

But 43% of the voters also wanted what the Tory party wanted. 50+ constituencies more than Labour hold to the Tory philosophy.

I am completely confused

Brexit lost me and now this election has me completely confused

The 'Older' generation voted us in the EU and then out again

The 'Young' generation looks like their getting behind 'JezzaC' but do not appreciate his past nor how the hell he will pay for his policies - not that I don't disagree with free student fees etc

I am in 'Surrey' Blue belt so for 45 years have known no different but have a Lib Dem MP who has worked his ar5e off for 20 years and done wonderful things for his constituency and is genuinely well thought of

So if we have to do this again it will be a vote for the country v a vote for the constituency

I am genuinely lost in all of this

The young were shown no sympathy for failing to turn out at both the last GE and Brexit vote when they moaned at the results and now you sort of criticise them for turning out and who they voted for!

Nooooooo

I am not criticising them at all

Do they understand what they are voting for?

Do they get that any 'pledge' has to be paid for and they don't ask how they will get free university education

Do they know they are voting for a man who denied any involvement with the IRA and was pictured at their meetings but don't care as they don't know who the IRA where?

I just don't get it thats all - guess at 45 I am in that middle ground and getting frustrated that the age groups above and below me seem to able to swing voting results yet I can't make a bloody difference

Not criticising? Your reply is very patronising, what if the answer is yes to all your points.

Maybe todays issues are because WE never got involved when we were their age.

The argument about not understanding the issues is the same line that people ran after Brexit. People voted for something they heard and liked. The Conservative took votes for granted and forgot they need people on their side. They needed to give hope and optimism, they gave nothing. No surprise that the young did not vote for them.

To continue, I think, the point of this thread. I will go for another election by October this year. Different Tory leader, could be a very different outcome.

Jings......My daughters prediction that George Osbourne will lead the Tories in the Autumn and take us out of Brexit could still be correct.

Kids must talk a lot about this at school now

My son said something similar last night

Mind you ... Editor of The Evening Standard or Leader of the Tories ... hmmmmm

I'm not sure the Tories will want him. Don't forget he only recently resigned his seat to take more wedge out of parliament. He has no seat, could he be leader for an election where realistically he would stand as leader without being an MP, no time to stand in a by-election before the next, imminent, election? I also don't see Osborne as someone who connects with people, there is something smug about him. JC did connect, TM did not. To go Osborne would be a very big gamble, amplified again by being a former Chancellor who's record can be thrown at him over and over again.

Interesting times.

They may well agree with his politics and vision for Britain and decided to ignore the hysterical press campaign waged on him by the majority of the papers who are(were) in TMays back pocket. They may well have been attracted to a campaign based more on the future and hope, instead of mostly meaningless vague soundbites and constantly banging on about how bad the other party is. They may well be sick of that type of politics, sick of a PM that went out of her way not to engage with them, or basically anyone really. Plus remember Labour was the only main party that attempted to cost out all their manifesto.
