Just seen Doons post on Glasgow, and am off to Gatwick in 10 mins to pick up ma and pa. they arrive at south terminal and info is saying car park three ( orange) no info on prices, length of stay. Gonna be interesting when two 80 yr olds get in the terminal and am not there.

don't spend more than the allotted time in the 5 mins set down/pick up zone. otherwise the forum police will be on your case;)

Tashy just stop in the short stay car park, its just gone up to £3.80 for 30 mins, £7 an hour and i think £10.30 any more.

We are cheap down here compared to them Scottish lot with all their money.

Oh and don't be anymore than 5 minutes looking for a space.;)

Spent five mins looking for the car parks. Er hang on.

Phil ask me a question again.

That aside. soddin M25. Its a flippin joke. In a wetherspons pub avin coke and burger.

Cheers boys. Had a drive through an seen parking.

Have they got a mobile? If so park in maccy d's and wait fro them to ring, then just meet them at the drop off point

Called at that one the way back. Had a burger before coming back and you have to get a ticket now which they punch ao you can get outta car park. Might check out tescos in 20 mins.

Its bugger all to do with security, its just a money making scam. Some of the smaller regional airports now charge you to drop off. Southampton you have to go into the car park minimum charge of £1, Bournemouth I think is £3 and they are fining people for dropping in the road opposite! Heathrow and Gatwick are free to drop although there are signs warning you not to pick up, never had a problem myself as long as you don't hang around and don't leave your car unattended no one bats an eyelid.

TBH its their land, they can charge a fee. As long as its cheaper than a taxi then it should not be an issue.

I never get this "should be free" argument, things cost but some cost less than others.

That's fair enough, but what about when it was free but no longer is?
Bournemouth implemented a £2.50 drop off/pick up fee when they built a new terminal, it has since gone up to £3. It's another revenue stream, one that is linked to the building of the new terminal. It's nonsense, just put 50p extra on a cup of coffee inside, no one would care.
It's the enforcement of the £3 that annoys people. There is talk of a fixed penalty, enforced by cctv, if anyone gets caught dropping off/picking up outside the zone.

I see that happening too. Did a pick up at the airport on Tuesday, had to pay 65p for an hours parking or 99p if you go over and need to pay for two hours.... scandalous!
Used to be 40p before the new terminal went in

I don't see what's wrong with a small charge for parking to do a drop off/pickup. Depending on the size of vehicle or number of passengers/ suitcases those figures are just pence per passenger. Try £4.60per hour for parking..........
