I’m sorry guys but Gary Lineker really rips my knitting introducing golf. Tell me what golfer fronts a football programme….it just wouldn’t happen. I would rather have a total non golfer doing the job. His one tone voice has no passion or charisma, oh and he gets a fortune and free crisps.

Ahh the old chesnut of the monotoned big eared footballer. Zero charisma, zero live presenting skills outside an orchestraed studio environment, limited golfing knowledge. Come back Steve Rider or even Hazel Irvine.

I tend to agree, he is tollerable in the football but not in the golf. It needs passion for the game and serious knowledge along with very quick wit that is sometimes beyond Lineker.

I agree. Bring on Sue Barker or someone! When that guy that does the rugby presents the highlights I nearly explode!

I believe he plays golf to quite a high standard, I know football is his thing but he is now the top sports presenter for the BBC, so he's not going to miss this is he?

Its one thing playing to a good standard (even I managed that) but presenting is another thing. I haven't got the looks, voice or personality and would never be comfy doing it (mind you nor has he and he still gets away with it).

The problem with the BBC is that it tries to pigeonhole people into other areas and doesn't always get the right peg in the right hole. I think Lineker is great on a footie show with his mates around but even in something like Sports Personality where he is out of a comfort zone his whole performance is stilted.

At the moment there isn't anyone that stands out. Hazel Irvine has done golf before half decently and is a safe pair of hands (use to live events like the snooker etc).

I'm not sure old players make the best presenters as they aren't great dealing with live TV presenting. They are much better suited reacting to pictures inside the commentary box and I think Monty will be like Faldo and carve a niche in that area. Sadly I think the BBC presenting talent is bereft of real talent and we're stuck with jug ears

Ol' GL has been a presenter for about as long as he was a footballer, so I think it's reasonable to stick him in the job if the bbc think he's good enough, no need to pigeonhole him imo.

Steve Ryder was pretty poor when he first took over fronting golf as well, and he got better. Lineker is easily recognisable, and isn't going to lose the beeb any viewers - he might even get a few more grannies to watch, you never know.

Also, once the action has started he can pass comment to the pundits, and that's where we need more knowledge. Bob Bubka ftw, maybe ?

As for alternative frontpersons. Peter Allis ? Terry Wogan ? Kirsty Gallagher ?

I'd give David Feherty a chance myself. Waddyathink :D

I emailed the BBC last year during the Masters asking for my TV Licence fee to be refunded for the month of April due to how cringeworthy Noddy's mate is/was!

Cant stand Lineker, he is just a clueless *** and absolutely useless at Golf coverage, I would even rather have Hansen who at least in my opinion is an articulate speaker.

How about a certain Sam Torrance in the studio? That man has it all, charisma, knowledge of the game & players, storries, tour insight etc.

I completely disagree. I quite enjoy watching Lineker whether it be Match of The Day or Golf and think that he has a similar wit of someone like Steve Davis.

Lineker in fact is a very good and keen golfer playing off 4.

I don't mind Lineker, personally.
rather him than some ex childrens TV presenter (F1) or some fella from wish you were here.

I quite like GL as a presenter for golf, Peter Allis showed last season what he has become and sly unprofessional comments on players and their personal lives. Golf & the BBC need to move forward and I think GL is witty and gives a balanced view.

Err........I dont mind Lineker, but Sam T would be superb me thinks.

Given the current choice of presenters, surely Di Stewart should be up there ??

She gets my nod...... :D ;)

I agree Alliss is too old fashioned and bordering on the racist at times....

GL is okay he was off form last night but he's suffering with a cold.

I'd pay an extra tenner a year for my TV license if it meant Di Stewart presenting the BBC's golf coverage.

Peter Allis used to be a member at our municipal, his dad used to be pro @ temple newsam courses which are also municipal, in fact the 1929 Ryder cup was meant to be played at the municipal championship course of Temple Newsam but the organisers didnt think it mature enough so went for Moortown :shakeyfist:

Bit of useless information for you.
