I'm struggling to decide between the two, not really fussed about the bluetooth bells and whistles of the S4 but having the ability to add hazards is a big plus.
The S1 is out of the question as I want one with a replaceable strap should it ever come to it.

Does anyone have any experience with either of these watches?

Aaaaand helpful response No 1 is.... no!

;)

But I have the S3, you can add hazards to that if you wish and the strap is pretty darn rugged. I mean I haven't gone rock climbing with it but it'd be hard to imagine breaking it. You cant add hazards to the S1 so fair enough if thats out. I love my S3, saw nothing in the 2 or 4 to tempt me away. The yardages are pretty perfect around my track with the exception of one hole, and I think that's just the way the green is a funky shape. Once you know about it you wont go wrong. At my level knowing the front middle back is probably more detail than I need, my ability limiting the usefulness of that data. If the winds in, I'll play the back yardage. And visa versa. Doesn't stop me coming up short and short left/right, that'll be the way I haven't connected properly.

Whichever one you get I cant imagine you'll be disappointed, I don't wear a watch in real life and thought I'd not get on with it (also have very slim wrists so thought it would be spinning around on me. Not a bit of it. After a round I didn't know it was there. Now I miss it if I DON'T have it on! Great piece of kit.

I mirror Curls reply :)

I have an S3 myself and love it to bits, can add hazards and comes in handy when I play in the states as well. It may be cheaper now as I think its end of line

Helpful response number 2 is.............

Skycaddie watch!

The Linx?
Don't you have to pay £40 a year to be able to add hazards?

I did consider the S3 but I like the idea of a changeable strap given the stories I've read about the S1 straps breaking.
Have the straps been beefed up on the S3? I've a clumsy bugger at best so I know I'd end up breaking it :D

No idea chap, but the S3 strap is pretty robust. Best thing I could suggest is going to an American golf or something and trying a couple of different watches on. I asked if I could hit a few shots in the net with a 7 iron while wearing the watch, no issue, at the time they were doing a really good price so I bought it there. That said if it was much cheaper elsewhere I'd consider showrooming and buying online. I've not heard these stories about the S1 strap breaking, either its a fault, the strap is different to the S3 or there be monsters out there.

have had the S3 for well over a year and have ahd no problems with the strap. Think i would even struggle to break it. Was debating the S3 or S4 but i play golf to relax the last thing i want is my wtach bleeping with people trying to text me. S3 for me!!

subs are optional on skycaddie watch, more accurate and updates courses quickly. No idea about adding hazards, I can see them.

There really is no reason to go for the S4 in all honesty. Either go S2 or the TomTom, which is a little small in its design

Yes I know what you're saying, I'm a sucker for gadgetry lol however it is a birthday so I may as well try and push my luck
I see there's another thread regarding gps watches where the Bushnell devices are popular and to be honest I'd not even contemplated the Tom Tom watch. Thanks for the confusion ;)

Go for the best of both worlds.
S1 watch for simplicity & ease of use + it's cheaper.
Then, when funds allow, get a Bushnell V2 jolt laser for hazards/ lay up's, also handy for the winter temp greens, when a watch is no use what so ever.

Thought I'd better put you all out of your misery, after doing lots of research I went for the new Golfbuddy WT4. It has all the extras of the high end Garmin without all that smartwatch guff which I didn't really want anyway.
I've read the bad reviews regarding the charging pins but I'm hoping they were just a bit cack handed when plugging them in ;)
The missus says it's arriving to her work today so I may try the sympathy routine to get it early
