I've had a Garmin S1 (wristwatch) for two years and found it invaluable as a novice.
The rubber strap just broke and Garmin want £65 + postage to replace the strap (it's a one piece unit).
A new S1 is £118.
However, Amazon are offering the hand held G3 for £99.
If I can't manage a DIY repair I might consider the G3.

Has anyone got one or had one and would you recommend it?

Thanks.
Am I right in assuming it does more than show pin distance - eg hazard distances and move the pin?

G3 is a great bit of kit, just get 4x AA rechargeable and a charger. I only got 2-3 rounds out of a set of standard AA's so could prove expensive over a season. Apart from that tho its very good.

yeah, shows the hazards, front middle and back. I only found out about the move the pin option recently.

measure drive option is quite neat.

for the money you wont go far wrong. it takes aa batteries which need charging every time but its not too much of a problem.

Cheers guys.
At £99 that appears to blow the £65 new strap option out of the water, or a replacement at£118.
And I have the rechargeable AA kit already.
Many thanks.

I have one and it's a very good no frills, functional GPS that does everything you need. Updates are free but as GBBO has recommended you'll need a set of high capacity rechargeables to get the best out of it as it does use batteries very quickly.

I'll have my S1 watch with gaffa tape as back up :(

superglue!

or McGuyver it onto your bag

Id look at these to see if they can be adapted to fit:

If the wrist strap doesn't fit, you could always send it back as it would be worth the risk on postage if it sorts it.

Well, maddening to see Garmin actually supplies straps for some models but neither will fit the S1.
The strap and watch housing are one unit and the actual watch face is screwed in from behind.
Thanks for the suggestion all the same.

Why not tak the s1 you have to the local jewellers or timpsons? Am sure they will be able to find you a new strap for under £15 I would say....

Get some Velcro to bodge it. Stick the hook part on your bag and the eye bit (softer) on to the back of the watch. Simples.
