Garmin G3 GPS system

Shows as £129 now but still a great price. I think they've got the prices for the G3 and the S1 the wrong way round though, if you go up one level (http://www.tesco.com/direct/gifts-jewellery/fitness-outdoor-gps/cat10730021.cat?catId=4294924075) the S1 shows as £239 and the G3 as £129.

Still, if anyone is after a GPS then got to be worth a go, it's not exactly their main business is it so they may not notice and accept the order? And actually, even if they switch them, £129 would be a pretty good price for the S1.

No, the G3 is advertised as £129. If you register with them and order though, and enter the promotion code as a new user (to Tesco) you get the £10 discount, taking it to £119.

It's much less than anywhere else and with no subscription fee I'm gonna give it a go..

Think I might join you actually, I won't get the £10 but even so ...

Edit ... yes I will, it accepted the code.

This is a bargain price for a brilliant piece of kit. I have one myself and it is rain and bullet proof (have dropped it onto concrete numerous times) without much damage at all.

It has all the courses I have played on it bar 1 (which is a new course). They give free updates to courses a few times a year. It is touchscreen and easy to use out of the box.

It uses AA batteries, I recommend you get a pack of 4 rechargeables and keep the 2 spare in your bag, Each set of batteries tend to last 2 rounds.

I paid £250 for it 2 years ago.

Only downside is the screens not huge, so if your nearsighted wont be great and if you have fat fingers using the touchscreen may be a problem?

Have been looking at the G5 , mainly because i have €260 worth of vouchers for the shop , so it will cost me €90 of my own bobs , does anybody know is it possible to get a mains charger for these & charge the batterys in the unit itself .. ?? how much is a charger for the AA batteries ?

As you can guess ive never had one & know sod all about them ..

The G3 comes with a USB lead to connect it to the computer and update it. I dont think it charges the batteries, chargers are around £15 including 4 AA batteries (the Garmin uses 2 at a time). You can even use normal AA batteries if you are really stuck, they dont last long though 1 round tops. So stick with the rechargables.

Actually come to think about it the G5 is a bigger unit with more functions, so Im not sure how much of that applies...!

I saw the G6 in american golf last night and it looks very neat and shiny. I wouldnt fancy dropping it on a concrete floor though as it looks like a iphone! It cost abot £300 IIRC

Anyone got one?

I see that Tesco's have it on offer for £119, which seems to be about £100 less than usual, so wondered if anyone has one and what they think of it?

Link for Tesco if anyone wants it is: http://www.tesco.com/direct/garmin-approach-g3-golf-gps-unit/208-8668.prd

Cheers

Bought one last week off Amazon, paid £139.00 and thought I had a good deal.

Anyway, used it twice so can't give you a long term review, however:

Plus points:
No subscription
Seems accurate when compared on course with pals skycaddie
You can zoom in on green and move flag to approx playing position
Colour screen pretty clear
Quite straightforward
Plenty of pre-loaded courses
rechargable AA batteries
seems very well made.
The Kooooooch ended up buying mine as I had a few quid E/w on him.

Minus points (Bear in mind only used twice)

Small screen
Bit fiddly to use
Doesnt automatically progress to next hole
Quite bulky (thick)

Hope this helps for £119 it is as cheap as chips, dont think you can go far wrong.

Arnold, mine does advance to next hole for me. The only time it doesnt is when the Green and next tee box are too close together and it cant tell. Agree its a little thick but it comes with a clip which you can just attach to your towel loop.

Thought it should, I will have to go into menu and check settings, agreed the detachable clip is very useful and well made, a few more rounds will no doubt iron out my frailties with it. Thanks

It also doesnt advance to next hole automatically when you are zoomed into the green. I think I just zoom back out after I reach the green. Just make sure hole transitioning is set to automatic and you should be all set

There is a £10 discount code if you spend over £75 with Tesco Direct too, My missus works for Tesco so I can get it for £107. Very tempted.

What code did you use? Think I'm going to go for one of these, was just looking at the watches but this looks like it's got a heap more features on it.

EDIT: Code I used is TDX-SKDK for anyone looking to get one. Looks an absolute steal! Thanks for posting this!
