Getting a gps device for Christmas, and I'm stuck between 2:
Sky caddie sg 2.5
The garmin watch
I have used the sky caddie before, so would know what I would be getting, but have never seen or used the gps watch .
The only advantage I know is that the watch has no subscription fees, but I'm not sure if that's really worth it.
Anyone know anything about it ?

Brilliant bit of kit if all you need to know is distance to front, middle and back of green. Lightweight, I hardly know I've got it on. Over 5400 courses pre-loaded, just turn up, switch on and away you go.

I'm getting the watch for Christmas, only bad review I've come across upto now is not having the course someone uses on it but when I checked the list it even had the worst 9 hole course you've ever seen on it and any other I've heard of.

Can't wait to use it, be good to see how far my drives are going and getting the club selection right every time!

a few mates have them... oh and some twonk called smiffy ... they all love them. the only reason i didnt get one is because i cant wear a watch.... even more so when im playing golf.

Got one coming for Christmas.
The Mrs got it from AG the other day, they are on offer at the moment £139.00
The guy in AG couldn't believe how fast they were flying out of the shop.

They are a superb piece of kit, I never wore a watch whilst playing before buying it, I don't even notice its on now.
The only problem is its a bit tricky to connect the 4 pin charger thingy.

One of the two faults that I highlighted in a "review" a few weeks ago.
The other?
It won't last 36 holes without a re-charge in between.
Not a problem if you only ever play 18, but if you are planning on a 36 holer buy yourself an in car charger or take the mains charger with you and be prepared to scrounge a spare socket at the club you are visiting.
Other than that, it's the mutz nutz.

I think it looks ideal and cost effective, played with a guy using one, I thought he was in a hurry and I started rushing a bit as he was always checking his watch 3 or 4 times per hole :o

They are very good. I played with 2 guys who had them and found myself forever asking them yardages. They eventually got sick of me asking and said bloody get your own ! AG have them on sale as well!!

They are good and are accurate to the front, middle and back of greens.

A few lads at my course have got them.

Personally i'm a bushnell fan, although those watches are well worth the money.

Ash!!

SC 2.5 user, pain having an annual subscription, but allows you to keep your scores for future reference and faster to use than a range finder. Don't think its got much over the Garmin unless you go for the SC SGX where you get the overhead view of the whole hole.

Thats interesting because i did really want something that kept old scores so i can see if i am improving.
So the sky caddie 2.5 does this as golf direct told me it didnt today ?
Also does the watch do this ?
