Looking for a bit of advice regarding garden pumps.

Basically i recently moved into a house that has a small decked patio (5 x 5 meters). The garden backs onto a deep lake.

Now there is no hose in the garden and that is becoming a pain. Mainly as my dog needs cleaning up after now and again and i want to plant some flowers etc.

I had thought of running a stopcock through from the nearest tap into the garden, however that would mean a fair bit of drilling and lifting floors in the living room.

I was considering a pump in the garden that would be fed from the lake and would give enough pressure to give a decent spray from the hose.

I have two external 240v plugs outside

I was looking at this sort of thing

As i think 3.5 bar should be enough for a decent spray?

Has anyone done anything remotely similar?

I am fairly certain that you cannot extract water from a lake/river without an extraction license.

Couple of things.

First you won't need an abstraction licence (from the Environment Agency) provided you don't take more than 20 cubic metres per day. BUT ... who owns the lake? You need to establish if you have the right to use any of the water. You might not if you don't have ownership of the lake. Ownership rights and EA licences are different issues.

Provided you have a right to use water from the lake, then you want to be looking at a sump pump or similar. The one you show looks like it needs a head of water to operate - ie it would need the supply of water to be higher than the level of the pump. A sump pump could be dropped into the lake. You just need to work out how to keep the general crap & debris out of the inlets. They can cope with some small debris but weed, leaves and such like will block it. And of course, as the pump sucks in water, it also draws such stuff with it. You also need to bear in mind that lake water wont be clean so it will be ok for hose use, but will tend to clog things like sprinklers & "roses".
