I am thinking of investing in a gap wedge. My current line up is 47 degree pitch, 56 degree sand and 60 degree lob. I'm thinking of getting a 51 or 52 degree gap, and then sacking the lob wedge as it is not the easiest club to use. My 56 sand is perfectly good enough for the lob shots over bunkers/water.
Your thoughts would be appreciated, as ever, chaps.

Sounds good to me, I use 52 & 58 and I do not need any more loft than that. If I open up the 58 I have 60+ and there is always the temptation to open up a 60 anyway.

I had a 28* Pw and the 52,56 & 60 wedges.
I now have a 53 & 58 and find that I can still play all the shots that I used to do with a wedge less.

I play a 54*,60*. I leave a 6* difference between my wedges including the pitch. This means I have an even yardage between my wedges and I can play a shot for any distance I'm out from the green.

Flop shots are the best looking but hardest shot in golf in my opinion. I would always play a different shot if its possible to minimise the risk.

Its all about knowing your game. Nobody knows your game like you do so if you don't need a 60* in the bag then take it out. Its always good to experiment with what works and once you've found something that works stop experimenting!

I have been experimenting endlessy finding the right wedges and ended up having an p-wedge, 50 degrees gap wedge, 56 degrees wedge and my famous 60 degrees lob wedge. Works great for me but i must say this might varie per person depending of the average shot. I see many having a gap wedge which produces the same shot as their P wedge, so the most honest advice to give is to try the different wedges and compare them while playing with them instead of just looking at the degrees and decide from paper!

Wow Angel, how many clubs are you allowed in Belgium?
Welcome to the forum by the way :)

Yeah I bought a couple of Vokeys over christmas a 56* & a 60* I feel now that there is very little between the 2 of them and now I have a big club gap from my pitch and and my sand.

Hi Bobmac, the total of clubs is the same in Belgium as in the UK, and i know that when you add up the clubs it comes to 15, however depending on my mood i either take out the 3 wood (with which i play less and less) or my 3 iron. While doing that i do not exceed the total of 14. Maybe i should change my signature from in the bag to my collection and list all of the stuff i have lying around the house! :-)

Thanks for the welcome!

I had a chipping lesson yesterday and the guy recommended dropping my 58 which has 8 degrees of bounce and going with my 56 which has 12 degrees. He thought that there wasn't enough bounce for me to play good consistant chip shots with the 58. I guess that begs the question do I then need my 60 to give me more options or would a 46 degree PW and a 52 degree wedge and now a 56 be sufficient

I have 47 PW, 50 gap, 54 and 58. Works for me. Gives consistent gaps, although it is rare I would consider a full out 58. I don't chip with it either. I chip with the 54 or 50. The 58 is for flops, or tight bunker shots. I practice flops of 10 ft forwards, 6ft up, but would never dream of trying it in medal play.

I think you need a Ping Tour W 52 degree and 58 degree combo, that would be perfect for you!

I'm sure someone on here was selling these exact two clubs!!!

My PW is 46 so I have the matching 50 and 55's and find these ideal for me. If I need to get the ball up really quickly I'll just open up the 55 and either blade it through the clubhouse window or fat it into a bunker

;)

You guys are lucky. As a newbie with game improver cavity backs the lofts are stronger. My PW is 45*. I really wanted to go 50, 54, 58 but couldn't afford it so compromised with 52, 56. I am finding the 7* gap between PW and GW frustrating already!!!
