The Clubs are cleaned & polished, the bag topped up with balls, and i'm set for tomorrow's little trip to Ganton, near Scarborough, Nth Yorks.

A long standing client of mine is a member there, and has kindly invited me to make up a 4, so I'm really looking forward to it

I'm hoping his course knowledge will help me stay out of any Bunkers, as some of them have steps down into them !
In fact, alongside Woodhall Spa, its supposed to be one of the very best inland tracks we have in the land :D

yes, - I'm a smidge excited

Best of luck you will need it!!! The bunkers are brutal to say the least. I went in a greenside bunker on one hole and I am nearly 6ft3" and my playing partner couldn't even see me in there from the fairway!!! Having said that it is a super course and the whole packasge is in a different league to what normally is on offer. Only downside is that it can be a bit archaic(sp?) with regards to dress code etc.

Enjoy the game. It is right up there with all the courses I've played.

A really tough track. Bunkers you can't even see from the tee ready to gobble up the slightest mis-directed tee shots. Gorse lined fairways that punish anything off line. Deep (and I mean really deep) greenside bunkers that have steps to get in and out of. Fast and undulating greens that can be very deceptive.

Have fun!!! :)

Well, what can I say .......

We couldnt have asked for better conditions, 22/23 degrees, light winds, absolutely fabulous.

Fearsome Bunkers..........altho I didnt go in one

Parred the 1st 4 holes before dropping a shot at the par3 5th.
Doubled 6, Par on 7, Bogey on 8, and doubled 9. Out in 42, ie 5 over.

Back 9 .... Par, Par, par, Birdie, Par, Double Bogey, Par, Par, Par........+1 Gross
:D :D :D
And that included the 235yd Par 3 17th !! Drive just off back edge, 8iron chip to 6", tap in .

It is an awesome track, a simply beautiful place to play golf, and if you are accurate, it leaves you with good shots to greens for your Par.
I perhaps had the advantage of playing with 3 members that could give me the line, but after shooting a +6 78, I have to say its not as tough as my own course, and if I played at Ganton, i'd be off 5/8 easily, instead of 10.

A truly memorable day, a truly fabulous course, and if I played it again, I'm sure those Bunkers would bite !

Glad you enjoyed it that is a great score on there, I play off 15 and I went round in 96 :o but I found more sand than you would at Blackpool and that is when it bites you also when I went we did not play with any members so some shots went away there as well

Ganton easier than Brough? :D Never in a million years! ;)

I think you need to play it a few times more and not on such a nice day (although delighted you got one!). Any track can seem straightforward(ish) on a day when you play well.

perhaps not......

Although I have to say that its Par4's are nowhere near as fearsome as some of ours at Brough.

All in all, t'was a great afternoon's golf.

Fearsome? Naaa!

16th is just a drive and a wedge.

And then a 7 iron. Then a chip. Probably a 3 putt too. ;)

This is the perfect time of year to play Ganton. All that lovely gorse in bloom. It is quite beautiful. Glad you enjoyed it and sounds like you played well - which is more than I've ever done round there. :(
