Hi All,

Long time lurker, first time poster so please go easy!

So I've been playing now for a couple of years with a set of Teitleist DTR'S (inherited). Think they are nearly as old a i am at this stage. I currently play off 17 and hope to get that down as much as possible this year. My local pro told me i need to change irons as soon as possible as I'm at a disadvantage using the DTR's, considering how much technology as changed. I'm not going to argue with him as he knows his stuff.
Now i hit the DTR'S pretty well and 75%of the time I'm happy but mis-hits kill me and I know the clubs i use are a touch unforgiving so its forgiveness I'm told i need.
I have hit a good few clubs during various tests but I'm still undecided. That's where i was hoping some of you wise souls could offer your advice and experience.

I started breaking 100 in 2011, shot in the 90's consistently in 2012 and i know i can shoot low 80's/high 70's this year.

Thanks for reading and I'll look forward to any feedback.

Cheers.

Welcome aboard Niallers, there are plenty of decent sets out there that will do you the power of good. Irons like Titleist AP1, Callaway X-series, taylormade burner series etc would all be a step up but still forgiving.

You'll get plenty of great advice here, but have you asked your pro what he would recommend for you? I guess he knows what you swing like?

Hi Guys, thanks for the welcomes. Budget at the moment is 200 max, might be more if the commander in chief allows it!

@Jay Gee yes mate my pro wants to custom fit me which is fine and i will do so soon. I hit R7's, X-22's and G10's with him and they all felt great but i would lean toward the x-22. I would still like to hit a lot more just to have a feel.

Being 6'2" would i be at a disadvantage in not being fitted?

Personally I'd go to American golf try a few out, then look on EBay
As already suggested Titleist AP1 are worth a look IMO

Thanks for all the suggestions guys. I guess I'll try a few more out and see where the best prices lay. will talk to my pro again after a quick 9 holes this avo. Anyone have any opinions on Nike Slingshots?

If you have around the £200 mark + postage there is a really nice set of Taylor Made forged CB's in the For Sale forum which are very forgiving and in great condition and will be a great bargain for someone

Being 6'2" would i be at a disadvantage in not being fitted?
I think so. Off the shelf clubs are sized to an 'average' height person, which I think they class as 5'10" or 5'11". At 6'2" you would probably benefit from proper fitting. You might find you need thicker grips too, but that's all part of the fitting process anyway.

I've got Diablo Edges, I hit them as good as anything else and they were a bargain so I bought them. A few months down the line and plenty of lessons and rounds under my belt, I'm now having them retro-fitted. I also inherited some Tom Wishon irons, but couldn't hit them properly. I then found out the reason why; they were 1" longer than standard.

I am 6ft 1" and use standard irons so i would suggest at 6ft 2" you shoul be ok

I think its your height and arm length / hand size more so then just your height
