Recently heard about this via a Mark Crossfield review, and it seems like a pretty great device. I'm quite into stats, and would be very interested in getting some in-depth stats about my game, as I think it'd massively help with club selection, and areas to improve. Wearable Tech is hugely on the rise at the minute, and I think Golf is the ideal game to exploit the growth in technology, and this is the most exciting example I've seen so far.

Have any of you guys used the system? And if so, what are your thoughts? Do you like it? How comfortable was the device itself to wear?

If you've not used one, would you be tempted? It's on my wishlist, and I'm hoping I can drop enough hints and get one for Xmas! £160 is pretty reasonable too, when I heard about it, I expected it to be much more expensive than it is.

Must remember to scan my club on every shot haha :)

£160 its a pretty good price too op. seen it in some places for £200.00

I like technology a lot and I will probably purchase one after Christmas ready for the new season. I will wait and see if other companies stock it then try to purchase with a discount code.
 
Linking this into other threads I think this kind of thing will appeal to the gadget loving younger generation and could make the game more fun for them. And to be honest it looks like something I would buy when slightly drunk one evening on the internet.

One thing though that has concerned me about these devices that measure how far each club goes is that they assume you are going flat out on each shot. Sometimes you may play a little punch 7 iron on one hole where you may play a full out sand wedge on other holes to hot the ball the same distance. So I assume that this will skew the stats if it is registering that you hit your 7 iron say 80 yards a few times. So over time it may well give you an average of how far each club goes, but it ignores the fact that some times you deliberately didn't want a 7 iron to go say 160 yards.

I would suggest not tapping it for less than full shots. :thup:
 
To get accurate stats you'd have to tap it though. Say on a par 4 you knock it into the trees off the tee, and bump it out of the trees with a 7, but don't tap your club. Then, with your next shot you tap your 9 and hit it onto the green, you'd be on the green in 2 according to the system, and it'd add a green in regulation number to your stats, but not be accurate. Might be a little flaw in the system there, would have to ask them about it!

Well im sure you can edit what shots count for the stats on the software. Surely they wouldn't develop something like this and be that stupid? :D

P.S Ive just checked the user forums and you cant select what type of shot or omit half shots from the data! Madness.

For that reason im out :rofl:

Hmm, that's not particularly promising is it. Have sent them a Tweet, so be interesting to see what they say. They seem to be pretty good at getting back to people, so we'll see what their answer is!

cant see see it from the links but does it offer swing analysis too? If not then it's only doing what certain apps (mobitee) with slightly less I out needed by the golfer. I use mobitee and can easily measure every shot. With which club and I can write one off if nit full shot, or have a setting to record punch shots etc.

Granted its it's slightly more time consuming, but if in a group can be done when not your turn to play and if on my own, I'll not be holding anyone up anyway.

Well really...

I guess if I played 3-4 rounds a week then that could guarantee me shooting lower scores as well. But it might not. ANd similarly with this gadget. Can't see how it in itself can make such a guarantee - so twaddle.

IMO of dubious value never mind possible 'flaws' already pointed out.

Both Mike and Paul are trialling the system for GM and love the data it provides, plus say it's very user friendly out on the course. However the one big pitfall, and a massive oversight on the developers part, is the aforementioned lack of a way to remove chip shots/punch shots/duffs from your average club yardages. Hopefully they'll listen to consumer feedback and add this option soon.

you mean a 'Mulligan' for stats? :whistle:
 
I suppose it kind of depends on exactly what stats it gives and how you use them. If you are trying to find realistically how far you hit each club then it is flawed. But I am assuming it can tell you other things?

I do remember that Skycaddie were trying a similar thing a few years ago where you'd stick a transponder in your grip as this thing does and the skycaddie would automatically know which club you hit and how far it went. But I am sure it had problems getting it authorised by the relevant authorities for use in comps so nothing has come of it as far as I am aware.

Would this thing be OK to use in comps or would you have to just get stats from practice rounds?
