Is Galvin Green Waterproofs really worth the money they ask for them??

Looking to get a full set of waterproofs in the next few weeks as badly need one. Where the best place to get a good deal as well?

they must be i made the mistake of leaving my jacket in the bar at the club and sadly it was never handed in someone thought it was good enough

Personally, I don't think they're worth it. I've got one of the jackets which cost £180. It now just looks the same as any jacket which cost half the price. Seems have frayed, some stitching come un-done.

there was a thread about this a few months ago. general thoughts were no.... there is other stuff on the market just as good for less money.

I purcahsed a proquip kit and to be fair its more than suitable, doesnt let water through, is plenty warm enough, with pockets, and i got top and bottoms for £99.00 reduced from £180.00

I had proquip as a junior, when i gave up i through it away as it was over 5year and was getting a bit tight, my current proquip is 3 seasons old and still looks like new. I would take alot to convert me to another brand of waterproof.

Craw where can I find this Cross stuff as never seen it before??

Aztecs27 thats very true if good enought for tour pro in that weather than can only be good stuff at a fraction of the price as well :)

I asked for a Proquip set for Christmas...I got a Nike StormFit set...Not that I don't like it, but I would question it's durability in a heavy downpour (thankfully not had to "test" it like that yet!)...I'm sure it will be fine, but our proshop has the proquip sets and they look and feel ALOT better quality.

Need to try find somewhere that stock is so can have a look as at that price gives me some money to play with for new driver lol 910 mmmmmmmm

Needing something before I go to Aviemore to play Spey Valley as never know what weather get up there

Get a pair of Speedos and a new driver! :D

I have Stuburt waterproofs and they are excellent (and pretty cheap relatively speaking).

Had them on all winter and kept me dry through the worst of it all.

Not sure I could justify to myself the cost of GG stuff if I'm honest. I'm sure it is "best in class" but there are other makes that keep you dry and are comfortable/breathable etc.

Haha am sure that would be a sore sight for folk seeing me in Speedo's! Maybe pretend I’m the Hoff while at it

Can that Andy Buttar in your pro shop / portakabin not sort you out? he's always wearing Galvin gear. The pro at Cathcart Castle has a Galvin account, he supplies most of the other pros in the area so will be the cheapest in the area.

I think GG gear is probably as good as, if not the best, on the market but you do pay for it.
As far as the waterproofs go, I think its all down to how much you play in the rain.
If you're a fair weather player, then there's no point spending £350+ on a GG rain suit. £100 on a cheaper but still decent suit - Stubert, Sunderland etc - is much more sensible.
But if you're the one who's still out there when everyone else has traded in their clubs for a boat then you're better off spending the money as they will keep you dry.

Dont really know Andy that well but could get my mate to say to him tho and see what he can do. Andy now up at Strathaven Golf Club.

Anno still got that portakabin the now as dont know what happening with our pro shop so nothing in it. Still need to speak to our pro anyway as lost my diver in the fire :(

Where you from and how you know Andy?

there was a thread about this a few months ago. general thoughts were no.... there is other stuff on the market just as good for less money.

Those general thoughts were typically from people who haven't bought Galvin Green. The vast majority of people who actually owned it were very happy with it.

It is very good stuff at a premium price.

If you are prepared to play in heavy rain, then it may well be worth it to you. I've got a waterproof top and an insula jacket.

The waterproof top is utterly waterproof. I couldn't afford the matching trousers so I bought ProQuip. They aren't bad but, if I get caught out on the course in a heavy downpour, I know that my top half will be bone dry and my bottom half quite damp.

It was quite important to me to have a good waterproof top as, once you're out on the course, you don't really come anywhere near the clubhouse until you finish. That means, there isn't really much scope for walking in, as you'll get totally soaked walking back anyway so you might as well play on!

The insula jacket is very good. I find I'm never massively warm wearing it but I'm never cold either. It just seems to keep you at a comfortable temperature.

The other thing I like about GG waterproof top is that it is very easy to swing in. It doesn't really affect your swing at all.

But it is very expensive and, for most, too expensive which is fair enough.

Bought a GG jacket a few weeks ago and it is great, I bought it to wear off the course as well as on it, something you cannot do with other makes.

Had Stuburt and they are pretty poor quality, the zip broke on both jacket and trousers. Sunderland not bad but more water resistant than proof.
