Hello, just looking for some advice or to see if this has happened to anyone else.

I bought some Mizuno mp60 irons from a big online shop about 10 year ago. I ordered s300 shafts and they initially sent regular shafts.... I contacted them and they apologised and agreed to replace them. I posted them back and got sent a set with s300 shafts (or so the gold label said). I've been using them for years no issues.

Grips needed replaced again and I decided to do it myself for the first time. When I cut the grips off the code on the shaft was DGIRL, as opposed to DGISL for stiff shafts. After contacting true temper and measuring the butt diameter to check, the shafts are regular... I'm sure a mix up is possible but for it to be on ALL of my irons surely is suspicious?

So, am I being paranoid or has the shop I got them from fiddled with the labels and sent me the same irons back?! I know 10 years is a bit long to expect them to do anything but should I contact them?

Cheers

Completely agree IainP and I don't plan to change them as it's worked out OK for me.

It's just not something you should have to deal with or be suspicious about.

You are right to be annoyed, but maybe this is key:

"I've been using them for years no issues."

Perhaps no issues but it is probably the case that stiff shafts may have allowed the golfer to play slightly better.

Regardless of the time, I would be contacting them to ask for an explanation.

What would the explanation say? Other than, "That is strange. However, it's been 10 years, so...."

@canary Yes unfortunately that is the easy answer for them.

@duff Been changed many times, just first time done myself and I checked the codes on the shady!

My coach always wants me to use X flex iron shafts, my club fitter/builder says stiff (tipped) is better for me, so we just put X flex stickers on them to keep my coach happy

After 10 years I'd be looking for to retire them and get something more current. There is bound to be a difference in the tech in the modern club heads compared with the MP60. The shafts will be well past their best after 10 years use as well. Time for a fitting and new clubs to suite your current swing.

Well, two things :
Yes they definitely diddled you. The shafts are clearly Reg and they put Stiff stickers on. Very easy trick to do, I bet there are hundreds of sets that have been sold with wrong stickers on in order to satisfy a buyer's wishes, who would ever know?

Whether to go back? If the shop is still trading then I would go back in and point it out, show them the evidence but you can't expect them to do anything now. It all depends if the same staff are there.

Id be peeved aswell and would want to go back & say something ,as per Three's post chances of anyone that was working there then being there now?

No point really ..

Understand your feelings on the matter tho

Just noticed that the clubs were bought from "a big ONLINE shop".

I guess chances of redress are now zero.

Thanks for the comments guys. I've gone back and explained what happened and asked for their comments.

I'm fully expecting them to just to brush it off as a mistake and unfortunately I'm not able prove otherwise.

I'll let you know what they say.

On another note, I'm an 8 hcp and all my other shafts are stiff and it didn't even cross my mind once that they were regular!

I doubt if 99%+ of golfers would notice the difference, but try telling them that when they're spouting on about shafts, kick points, swing weights etc etc on a golf forum
☺

OK. So I got a reply from the managing director of Clubhouse Golf. In summary :

Unable to comment as it was so long ago, different staff etc.
Must have been a mix up at the factory as the company would not tolerate this.
Offered me a "good will" discount if I decided to upgrade. This would depend on the irons and isn't just a blanket discount.

So the motto of the story is, check the codes on your shafts the first time you re-grip!
