played with a few boys this morning and it was pretty windy 30MPH + and the greens staff were ironing the greens as we set out. Fast would be an understatement

You could not stop the ball down wind, well only if the hole got in the way. More than 13 on the stimp!!!

Not had to play in that sort of wind for a few months that's for sure. 7 iron was going 120 into and 220 down wind

Never seen so many putts de greened, even the two boys i played with both extremely good putters and both off 2 did that on a couple of holes.

what a laugh we had, not a good score between us but great fun.

You don't have to play well to enjoy a game.

Tomorrows Presidents cup is going to be interesting

Green irons really do make greens scary quick. The ball just never seems to slow down.
Good luck for tomorrow, don't think this wind is set to drop.

Not sure what greenkeeper would use a green iron on a very windy day when there hasn't been much rain in recent months

In fact that's as stupid as you can get

I think there has been some criticism the last few Silver comps with the greens not being as quick as they could be.... !

To be honest you don't want links greens quick just true if wind picks up its a nightmare and just not golf!!!

People blag on about these greens irons yeah there good I have to admit but not so good if using them a lot

Local club to me uses them a lot if a run up to a major comp or county is coming (this club has ok greens for 2months a year)
It compresses the soil and doesn't let the grass grow properly ok for few days but in long terms not doing your greens any good

A machine that rolls the greens - flattens them a bit and makes the green a little faster and harder

It seems a very strange decision to iron them in those conditions but they must have had a reason. It would be a shame if the comp tomorrow was reduced to a lottery in the conditions

Well no where as windy today, but still a stiff 3 club wind.

Greens quick still but a couple of guys shot good scores. Young lad who' s 14 shot 4 under gross off plus 2 , a pleasure to see some of his shots . Managed a 77 gross but not much luck , a few dodgy bounces , but will still get at least a 0.1 cut

Wow, -4 at 14. Hasn't he got homework or a paper round to be doing and letting the rest of us chop in blissful happiness?
