Going to play here with my son in August, my hometown but never played it before I travelled South, what should I expect... also any recommendations for a course to play on the way from York to Nottingham... Was hoping to play in Scarborough as going to the Cricket Festival but not a feasible option so something close to M1 A1

Fulford is a top notch course and well worth a visit. It has hosted many pro events over the years and was famously the course where Bernhard Langer played from a tree. Near to Scarborough would be Ganton (just off A64?) - which should be on anyones must play list and has a similar history and reputation.

Lindrick or hollinwell.

Fulford is a quality track former tour venue, and quality all around. Well worth a visit you will enjoy. Watch the false fronts to the greens and check pin positions some greens can Be 3 clubs different from Front to back!
Ganton is too but it 45mins past fulford.

York to Nottingham, I would try Lindrick at Worksop.

Spot on advice guys.... both top notch courses....the only better would involve a bit of a detour to Woodhall Spa (rated well above both these with The Hotchkin being 6th best course in England).... best inland course I've ever played.

DETOUR!!!???. Just a little from Nottingham to York! But as you say Woodhall is top quality and very much worth a visit.

Sherwood Forest is well worth it. I've played Woodhall this year, Ganton, Moor Allerton, Pannel, but Sherwood is by far the most brutal I've played this year. Severe rough and gorse.
