Had a game yesterday in undoubtedly the coldest weather I've ever played in. An ice cold north wind was blowing right across the Firth of Forth and all four of us were shivering by the second tee.

We soldiered on and played the whole round but by the fourteenth I just wished our team hadn't won the hole to peg it back to 3 down, as we could have walked in with a healthy 5 and 4 drubbing!

My only tip was from an old ski instructor. If you've got cold hands.. swing your arms like windmills for 30 seconds. Centrifugal force gets the blood rushing to your hands and restores the feeling quickly. You can actually feel them warming up.

I went out for a few holes yesterday afternoon. Took my daughter out as the course was quiet. Absolutely baltic ! There was frost on some of the shaded parts of our 9th at 3pm.

Worst thing was that the Hot Chocolate was off in the clubhouse, the machine chose the wrong day to breakdown !

Pah! That was tropical, Andy :D

It didn't help that two of the guys I was playing with have WON an all expenses paid trip to go and play in a competition in Abu Dhabi next week and one of them had been playing is shorts in Portugal last week! They looked upon our round yesterday as endurance training for the mind!

Didn't get a game yesterday as when I got up at 7am it was white and howling a cold cold northerly so we shyed off thinking we would take the chance of getting a game today, fast forward 24 hrs and looked out the window at 7am to find a thick balanket of snow bloody shame as it is a cracking day apart from that!
2 unbelievably long days I am that withdrawn from not getting a game I felt compelled to surf ebay for some gear and have purchased a brand new 2.5 skycaddie for £110!The seller then contacted me and unbelievably it is a guy who used to do the mapping for Scotland when I did a bit for Skycaddie too!! He recognised my name. How wierd is that eh?

I played yesterday and although not as cold as your area , it was quite windy and the wind chill made it feel colder.
I found my gloved hand was colder and could feel it warming up just by removing the glove. I think the glove must restrict the circulation.
Today we've had a dusting of sleety snow, the rain is coming down sideways, and it's very windy. :(

was supposed to play yesterday john , wish i had ,there`s an inch of snow covering the links here in the `old grey toon`..hats off to those who played yesterday ..true diehards..i think even `` poults ``would have pulled out yesterday ha ha

I rolled up this morning at about 8.00.

I walked around, slipped and slid my way around the greens close to the Clubhouse, decided 3 tops and a waterproof was just enough to stay warm, then tried a few putts.

By 9.00 I'd decided the rain and wind was also coming to add insult to injury. There were two spaces in the book, but I just came home in the end. Shocking weather all day here, glad I didn't bother t.b.h.

Didn't play this weekend but did have a lesson yesterday morning.
Bright sunshine but bitterly cold.
Working with my wedge with some good results, well pleased and so was my pro with my progress.

No play today due to HID "requesting" I assist in de****ting the hall stairs and landing. An ongoing job which will probably last for several days! Oh the joy!

Just got back from the club house.. blowing a hoolie today..41mph winds and northerly which made it a little chilly! It was about 9C which for us southerners is bladdy freezing!!!

I played 9 holes yesterday afternoon and really didn't enjoy the cold at all. I couldn't see on the 1st tee as the wind was in my face and my eyes were streamimg. I stayed out to have a go with the new snake eyes wedges and zen putter but couldn't wait to get home.

Apparently our course was closed today due to frost. Yesterday the Pro was giving lessons to some wee juniors but had to stop because after half an hour they were crying.

Played yesterday in a society. Didn't tee off until 11.30 and was fine on front nine. Got to 13 on highest part of the course and got frozen waiting on the tee. Just felt chilly all the way in after that (played 18 in very dark conditions) despite a base layer, roll neck jumper and a woolen jumper on top. A good buy recently was a pair of Glenmuir winter trousers. Basically a teflon coated chino like material and the inside legs are covered in a furry covering (material is a bit like the inside of sweatshirt). Very very warm and a snip at £18 inc p&p

It snowed here today and I was going to play until I saw a monkey with a welding rod in its hand ambling past our driveway.

Got up at 9, bacon butty at 9.30, on the tee at 10. Snow every where, 18 temporary greens. Drove off on the 1st (yellow ball), and the heavens opened. Pouring with rain, about 20mph wind, temperature minus 1 (according to car). After 4 holes we were freezing, all my grips were wet and I have lost all feeling in my left hand. Cut accross from 4 to 12 (course empty). Played 12 and 13, and then two walked in, but two of us stayed out to do 15 to 18. When we finished, the sun was out, and the temperature was about 5 degrees. Had a beer in the spike bar, and thought, let's go again. Get to the 1st tee. Course closed.

So, if it is snowing, it is open, if it is raining, it is open, if it is freezing, it is open.

If it is sunny, course closed.

Saturday was the worst I have played in this year, I joined up with two fellas and one was wearing a bloody t shirt with a tank top only!!! only played 9 and had a brandy to warm up.

Sunday wasnt to bad just sheet ice covering the greens and a soggy course, though warmer than sat not idea golfing weather.

Same again this morning.

Bright sunny day, gentle breeze but quite cold. Ground still wet underfoot. I was contemplating a round this morning as I have a couple of days off work.
Can you believe I decided against it in favour of progressing with the dec***ting. Should be good for brownie points with the missus though!

Good on you guys who give it a go in these conditions but not for me. I use to play winter golf many moons ago but I get no joy out of trying to play in these conditions. Call me a fair weather golfer all you want I’ve had my time at winter golf. I still have the odd round if it’s favourable.

Tom I totally agree, I played 9 holes on both days at the weekend, it wasnt any fun at all and I've been trying to stick to the range but as its only about 200 yards its only ideal for my irons and short game. I tend to drop down to 2-3 times a month this time of year whereas in summer its 5-6 rounds.
