..went to visit my parents who live just outside Blackpool, about 5 minutes from the Herons Reach DeVere Golf Cours/Hotel. Took the golf clubs to play 9 holes and went to the range at Herons Reach with my nearly 4 year old to practice.

I should explain that he's a real golf nut, and plays with anything he can get his hands on!! He has his own half set also. My 9 year old is having a teenage strop at the moment and doesn't want to play golf at the moment - hope he does cos he's got a natural talent which seems to have skipped a generation (namely me!!)

Anyway, as we walked towards the range a lady golfer was walking out having finished. He looked and said:

"Look dad, that ladies got some golf clubs". he then paused for a second before continuing "A lady playing golf, that's funny that is." The lady was near enough to hear, but never said anything.

I tried not to PMSL while explaining that there are lots of ladies that play golf.

Any other kids moments out there?

I take my 4 year old to the practice ground of my club. He like rolling down the slopes, and insists that I do the same. Don't know how the Committee would view that

went to the driving range with my daughter and the wife came along with my two and a half year old son to go into the restaurant.

They are all there at the start, me and the daughter hitting balls the wife and son watching.

My lad is looking at the bloke next to me and just before he is hitting the ball he starts saying whack, dad he's whacking it.
The bloke starts to feel the pressure after a couple of "whacks" and miss hits a couple.

SO the wife and son are banished to the restaurant and an apology to the bloke who laughs and Say's that was weired, people watching and talking does not bother him but he started getting self conscious and was worried what my son would say if he missed a ball.

Funny how young kids can affect you. Fair play to the bloke he was nice aout it and thought it wa funny the way he was affected by it, nice bloke.

If AliB reads this my advice to you would be duck. I dont think she'll shout fore....

I don't bring them up with this view, its more likely because the other half has no interest in golf at all - won't even come to the range to watch her boys. I keep telling her she needs to come along.

Think you got that one in just in time, pjaz. After all, I have a reputation to keep up!
But I suspect it's not just his Mum who's at fault ... his perception must be influenced by seeing his brother and dad playing, not to mention media coverage.
On the bright side, at my last trip to the range there was a busload of kids having a lesson - from a girls' school.

I have had to change ranges, as on Wednesday evening the local girls school has about 40 teenagers at the range having a group lesson. Now while I think this is good for the sport, the noise and shrieking has to be heard to be believed. I have tried the Ipod, but even Marilyn Manson won't drown it out.

Am I safe then Ali B? It is unfortunate that we don't see many female golfers, one of my regular golfing partners is a female colleague from work - we played a game on my 40th so I spent more time with her than my wife on that day!!

Tsk, tsk - clearly etiquette not part of the lesson!

About 12 years ago I was out playing in a Saturday competition my eldest son (18) now was walking with me. I hit my drive up the 12th when reached my 2nd shot I played it towards the green. a chip and run shot. While the ball was in the air I shouted RUN RUN. At this my son thought I was talking to him so he darted of towards the green. My playing partners nearly wet themselves. I had to shout stop stop. and call him back. It was so funny at the time. One of the guys still talks about it and keeps my son going after all these years.
