Well if you have been watching the paint fill thread, I have just started this one so you can see the end result to it all. This is where I started ...I acquired the putter off Ebay. I changed the grip and had it cut to 33.5" and liked its feel.

I stripped it out after looking at the costs for a Scotty job or another person, but thought I really ought to give it a go myself after reading about some of the forum's activities... So here are the final results.

I am quite happy with it, the metallic paint was a bit of a pain but they have always have been. I will see how it wears.
I also sourced the pitch fork tool and did that, I was looking for a blue and white grip but could not find anything to justify removing the one on there. I also tried to get a head cover that was in better condition but that was looking a little too much.

I think I have managed to keep the total cost down quite well and if I do choose to Ebay it I may make a £5 :) ... or fund my next one.

Nice job, Looks like you will make a few quid if you sell it on :D

Tidy job

I've also been inspried by some of the forums work. I'm looking to find a tatty Scotty that I can use as a restoration project.

Thank you, I rather enjoyed doing it, but seriously I don't think it would be a profitable past time. We saw on here a brand new del mar going for £135 + postage, to get some profit you would have to source something under £50 and fit the grip etc.. The head covers are the killer, if you don't get one or its in a state its very hard to get people excited by the putter. If I could find away of renovating the head covers cheaply I would be laughing! Or I could simply offer to do it for people and they supply their putter, but its easy to do, so everyone might as well try themselves ... if you make a mess I am sure I can help you out :) but you wont it's easy.
The difficult jobs are re-instating metal finishes, you could look for a local metal work shop but you could acquire a bill and get a poor finish.

Yup thats a fair comment, but there are loads of customs out there, so could apply to them. It really does depend on whether it appeals to someone and they know the cost for the custom shop to do their paint fill...

I know the whole scotty collecting thing is sort of based on it being original or at least done been customed by Scotty Cameron in the states.

I suppose its ok if you are going to use it just for yourself.

did you do anything to the metal its self in some way, or just do the paint fill?

just got a light buffing nothing more nothing less, face untouched ...
Yes there are several criteria for Cameron collectors, some do paint fill themselves others get full authentication etc... If it had been a limited edition piece I think I would have left it, but I suspect it would have been better cared for or unused if it had been. In the end its just a run of the mill Scotty Squareback No.2, with a few different colours. It would be interesting to see what people are prepared to pay for it and whether it does generate any interest, value can only be determined that way.
