I previously mentioned that Frilford Heath had a great winter deal.

Its as follows -

Unlimited Golf, Breakfast and 1 course lunch

Weekdays - £50
Weekends - £60

up until the end of January. After that they both go up £5 (until end of March)

Having played there last week, I was shocked at how dry the Red and Green courses were. they were in great condition

Might be worth considering for people if their courses remain closed.

I get their emails as well, I'm thinking of going along in March once the days start to get longer and it isn't such a rush to fit in 36 holes. Was talking to a new member there last week about their drainage and he was telling me how surprised he has been to find that he never has any mud anywhere on his shoes & clothes after a round.

Another local suggestion for a course with great drainage is Tadmarton Heath up in the north of Oxfordshire. Played there on December 31st the day after it had bucketed down, and you wouldn't have known it had rained at all.

we got warned away from the blue course, but i'd imagine its not as wet as most courses, just in comparison to the Red & Green.

My course is £10 for 18 holes for non members, and is still in reasonable nick. You have to bring your own sandwiches though

You're going to fit in well here :D

Not sure where the £10 course is though?

If anyone is doing a Frilford, and there are spaces, I may be interested as am local

The club I play at has a long 9, par 37, and quite challenging. Drainage is good, and greens excellent. Full membership is £340, or a pay and play is £99 + £4 a round for 9 holes or £6 for 18. Non members pay £6 and £10 respectfully. Of course, it may well go up for the summer. Even the beer is cheap, and you can't say that for many clubs. It certainly isn't Saint Andrews, but it suits me

Very good value for money and a decent course. If it's standing up as well as the OP says then I might be tempted to round up a fourball for a weekend round

Honestly Homer. The red course was in great condition. We played quite late in the day so the greens had had a lot of traffic and a few footprints but other than that. As good as it gets outside of a links.

Oh and with regards to the £10 par 3 course. I'd rather pay the extra £40

I went to a works outing to Frilford Heath about the late 90s. I played 2 courses.

It was easily the best club I had been to at that time. I still remember how amazing the greens were.

i think at that time the entry fee was a lot of money and the subs were over £1000.

i would love to play there again sometime, it is a long way from home though.

But you don't appreciate how poor I am. For me it's golf, or feed the family. To be honest I prefer golf, but the wife is a strong character LOL

Yeah it's £3k joining and £2k membership. Breaks my heart

There isn't a lot of competition in the area but to me that is way over the top. That's the sort of money you pay for a top 100 course.

It's expensive and they must be struggling a little to get new members as they are doing a years free membership at the moment, so year one is £3k joining fee, then after that the £2k a year.

In terms of value, £2k I think is pretty good. There is 3 top quality courses there that could easily stand alone as a single course unlike some places where the secondary courses are just that, secondary.

Personally £2k for Frilford or £1.5k for 18holes @ liphook or hayling (as an example)
I think Frilford is the better deal.

It's just whether or not you can play enough golf to get value

I hear what you are saying but it shouldn't be any more expensive because it has multiple courses. 3 courses = the capacity to have 3 times as many members but only 1 clubhouse to finance. Also means they can have lots of societies (money spinner) as they can assign one course a day to that purpose.

Very true. The fact they are offering this deal just seems to me like they are too scared to get rid of the joining fee!
