For Christmas, my daughter was very lucky and Father Christmas delivered a new TV for her!! It's got Freeview built in.

Our house has SKY.

We have no external aerial. We do have an analogue aerial in the loft but, as I didn't install it, I've no idea whether it works.

My question is, to enable my daughter to watch Freeview TV, do the supplementary aerials (i.e the ones that plug in the back and sit at the side of the TV) work or do I need to get an aerial specialist in?

Thanks

AW

They can work, but can be a bit dodgy on signal.

It's not hard to fit an internal aerial in the attic, then run the wire through the roof to the bedroom.

You also don't need a digital aerial you just need a free view box and normal old aerial

Or, get a second hand sky box, you get most channels for free anyway and the menu is bang on how a menu should be, sack off the freeview unless she's a big fan of Dave.

I recently put an arial up in the loft and run two freeview TV's off it with both having a fantastic picture and I haven't even put a signal booster on.

The most difficult thing was getting the aerial box into the attic and then unpacking/putting it together. It was only a cheap £15 jobby out of the B&Q sale and the whole job cost me about £35 with the cables, sockets, plugs etc.

Unfortunately "posh" Wokingham is obviously an aerial blackspot - you have to have Sky as you cnat pick up an aerial signal, especially digital channels as they just completely pixellate.
I am hoping that in Feb after the switchover, the fully digital service will be boosted (because they wont have to keep powering analogue signals) and then we might get a stronger signal and i can stop paying for SKy

Then i will start working out how to get my Broadband above 0.27 Mbps

Not bad for the apparently most affluent area of teh country :)

Same here, I couldnt get an analogue signal, so had to go to sky for all our tv signals. Jacked sky in a few years ago and use the box to get the freesat signals.
