An interesting lie this afternoon! Right up against a vole having a little sleep in the first cut. Gave it a poke and it wouldnt move, should I have played ball and vole to the hole or was it ok to take a free drop? :D:D It did scarper when I struck the shot, must have had a late night :smirk:

Vol(e)taire could write a novel about the mental issues around considering whether to play this shot or not.....:)

oh, and yes - live vole would be an outside agency so mark ball, request vole to move (or move it) then replace if necessary (ball not vole)

dead vole would be a loose impediment - no relief in this manner and requests only :)

It doesnt matter if you broke the rules taking a free drop. the drop would have gave you no advantage and you where acting in the interest of an animal. Good on ya. I know people that would take the shot to keep a good card

Dreary vole!

I'm pretty sure that Rule 19-1a applies.

Free relief must be taken.

a. If a player's ball in motion after a*stroke other than on the*putting green comes to rest in or on any moving or animate outside agency, the ball must*through the green or in a*hazard be dropped, or on the*putting green be placed, as near as possible to the spot directly under the place where the ball came to rest in or on the outside agency, but not nearer the hole,

The correct way to defuse a potentially vole-atile situation. Playing the ball as it lay could have had a considerable effect on the ball vole-ocity off the clubface.

We could write vole-umes on this......

Well I'm disappointed; I thought someone would have been shrew-d enough to ferret out a few more puns. Obviously I was mouse-taken.

I was rat-icent to bring out too many puns, and too be honest, I couldn't skink of too many small mammals. However, having moled it over for a bit, I've decided the more puns the bat-ter. I was trying to decide if a vole was more closely related to a mouse or a rat but couldn't, it's one or the otter, no point splitting hare's really...

I'll get me coat...
