Me and missis T went out for a meal last night in catania as recommended by hotel staff.
1 ltr frizzanta water. Two pasta starters. Two bowls of salad. Two main courses of scicilian special meals. Limone pud for missis t. Two coffees and a litre of house red which was divine. Il Conto (the bill) 32€

Left them an eight euro tip and missis t said you have left them the equivalent of two litres of wine tip. They were ecstatic. Guess where we are spending last night. Coz missis T fancies a T bone steak for 8 euro.

Thought this was going to be about diesel

Just Googled Catania, looks beautiful, enjoy

Fish it is very much a chalk and cheese town. The staff in the hotel liberty are fantastic. The hotel is one of the best i have stayed in. In the world. For what we have paid. The food we have had through the hotels recomendations have been excellent and cheap. But the litter everywhere makes the place and Sicily look a dump. Drove to Syracuse which was nice. Taormina is gorgeous and drove around mt etna today and it looks big and scary.
A long weekend was enough and i am gutted because i fancied coming back later this year for a week ( bringing my clubs for a couple of rounds ) then having a week around calabria.
However missis T said she would now sooner do the heel and toe
( Calabria and Puglia) which i agree with but creates a problem as there looks to be no decent courses in the south of the Italy. Any recomendations on that front greatly appreciated.
PS the fiat 500 has been a brill little car to drive.

It always surprises me that some of the most beautiful tourist destinations can be so filthy at times when you look about, I remember my first trip to Marseille, OK it was for football but still a popular tourist destination, the crap at the back of the restaurants and the smell on hot days in the side streets made you feel sick, I remember walking back to my hotel 1 night in a zig zagging fashion and thought, bugger getting a taxi, I'll throw a saddle on the next rat that comes by, they were huge!

Catania is beautiful but there's some very dodgy parts. Taormina, I've visited several times - wow!

last time we stayed at the Villa Angela. If you're a Simple Minds fan it can be a fantastic experience on top of the holiday. It's owned by Jim Kerr who, he's not touring, you'll see wandering about.

Landing at Catantia is interesting, as you swing around Etna, all 11,000ft of it.

Story of my flippin life. resturaunt is shut tonight. Been recomended another

Homer aint that the flippin truth. Me an missis T turned up and the menu although looked fine and dandy was A. Full of fish. And B full of euros. Suffice to say it was a very nice meal but not a patch value wise on last night.
Wish i had gone to resturaunt fud were they sell donkey and horse burgers. Ah well. Never mind.

Stayed at Villa Angela also, Hobbit.
Really nice place, great food and a cool view of Etna erupting in the distance
Taormina is great, think we'll be going back.

Have been to Catania et al many times as I was married to someone from there. There are some beautiful places but I wouldn't want to venture too far from the hotel in the evening if I was there as a tourist. Off the beaten track it's a dirty place with lots of nasty people. It really is a place where the mafia are real.

Nah you find ten mins here and there, when she's chillin Reading women's own or whatever rubbish mag she bought at the airport. It's a nice distraction.
Re Catania Just one has hit the nail on the head. the china town/ Chinese area of the city is a shocking area.
Had a fantastic drive around Etna from Taormina to Catania, watching it smoking from the North side is truly amazing.
