C'mon then...how much longer are your forum distances compared to the distance you really hit? ;)

Just used Google Maps to measure my tee shot on first yesterday - 275yds - uphill except for last 25yds. But forum requires honesty - there was quite a following wind (aka a gale). Standard tee shot on 1st - 225-230yds - and on our 1st that is viewed by most members as a goodie.

Like Best vs Nearest Point of Relief.

It's probably 'Best-ish' - good one out of the middle - rather than average. Fortunately, that's the case more often than not so pretty much the same really!

Par 5 12th hole. I absolutely smoked one on Sunday. Lovely soft draw, wind behind and a big healthy bounce on the fairway. GPS measured 287 yards. Second shot hit 4 iron beautiful crisp strike, gentle fade, healthy kick onto the green and a nice roll out. GPS measured 234 yards. So with a bucket load of help from the elements and two of the best strikes I made all day Im still well below forum average :( Better eat some Weetabix ;)

But the most important thing was that my eagle putt didn't even threaten the hole...

Any given day my distances can be way off .. on a normal day if i have 135 yards to go i will opt for a PW .. will i hit that pitching wedge a 135 yards ?. hopefully but its not a given .. yardages for my driver ? can drive our par 4 12th off the whites most times , but not every time .. played our par 5 , 4th hole Sunday , wind behind , went for a big one , topped it 70 yards maybe ..

Distances threads are not something i usualy get into , Why ? ? i dont care what distance other people hit the ball , i dont care if you can smack a drive 100 yards past me or me past you ..

what does make me laugh is when people tell some one they have never met , "you cant hit a club that far" , if someone tells me they can hit a drive 350 yards well i say good for them .. what matters is handicap , play enough honest golf & you will end up witha an honest handicap ,

Same. I'm a self confessed short hitter and readily admit it. 250 tops for me (unless downhill or downwind) but average around 235. Trying to be straighter to compensate.

I'm the same as Homer.

I did however smoke 2 drives right out there Thursday of last week. GPS'd at 269 and 262 where my normal, run of the mill drive would be 220-230 with 240 at the absolute maximum.

Liking what I'm reading here - sensible (realistic?) average drives. No need to justify expensive gear guys - just a bit of honesty to help our game :)

As the two above a really good drive for me will occasionally threathen 260 but for the most part 230-240 sees me happy.
Not a big hitter by any means. I did once hit a drive over the 300 mark but there were so many variable factors that I will probably never get them all in alignment to do it again :D

Dunno, hit driver, 3w to 25 feet on a 505 yard par 5 yesterday. Didn't sink the eagle putt either.

It was in a scramble and my drive and approach were the taken shots. I was trying to squeeze every inch out of my shots, drive was a rare one that actually found the fairway. Probably 20 yards longer than a normal 'good' drive on that hole. The approach is blind and I've never gone for it in two before.

Hate to admit it but I am a short hitter just like Homer, the guys call me Pop Gun because I lack any great distance from the driver and normally find myself hitting the second shot first:swing:

Really wish I could find some extra yardage.....

Im also what I'd consider short, average around 240-250 with one out the button creeping to 260 or so. Best ever drive as detailed on a previous thread was over 370 yards on a baking hard links course all down hill, I reckon there would have been at least 100 yards of run on it, genuine distance that one.

I would be around the same bracket as that. People adapt their games around their strong points whether it be power or accuracy etc.

My game is about hitting the fairway and putting like a demon :D

Martin i fixed you answer, i think you put the wrong distance for run down.

Sam, i 'd hate to play with the guys who call you pop gun ( could be for something other than driving, or so your Mrs says) you were 50 yards at least past me off the tee at Blairgowrie and Leven.
