Formby hall

Not a bad course, can be a bit of slog at times. The hotel is nice and the bar prices are on a par with most other hotel bars, expensive.

Played over Christmas. Thought the course, layout etc, was pretty decent - above average for that type of course.

Obviously gets peppered so the odd green was showing some wear.

Prices in 19th were slightly above average but not eye watering. Food good value though.

Have looked at the hotel but never stayed there.

Some cracking links courses nearby!

I really enjoy every time I play it. loads of water so you have to think about your tee shot and plot your way around.

Best sand in the north west in the bunkers.

There's a Premier Inn up in Southport mate if digs aren't too important. Stayed there a few times and it ain't too bad, nice location next to the pier as well, nandos and other eateries across the road.

If ya takin' the missus then she'll like it, particularly if spa's are her thing. If not then even better :D

I like the course, have played it loads but it holds water so be wary of that. It's a decent layout and disagree with Stuey re it being a slog. You MUST play the 9 hole Par 3 course. The 3rd hole is ace (take more than 3 balls if it's dry).

Food in the bar is great and one of the sole reasons a colleague always took me there!

To be fair though, if you're staying in Southport and not tied down to playing Formby Hall, then there's a few other courses I'd play instead.

To the OP, I quite liked it. Even though water is in play on most of the holes there, the back 9 really has it on the edges so it's not really in play unless you hit a bad shot. Never stayed there. Bar prices were typical hotel prices.

Apparently the par 3 course is meant to be really good, but not played that either.

I Stayed there a couple of years ago, nice hotel not to expensive as I remember. Enjoyed the course there seemed to be a lot of water on it,ponds and ditches and there was a good driving range too. Whilst we were there we played Formby and West Lancs both very good courses.

We had our annual golf trip there last summer and really enjoyed it. We all thought the course was really good, one of the better 'hotel' course's we've played, plenty of water, holes are varied and the course was in excellent condition despite it absolutely chucking it down whilse we played.

The hotel is nice too, staff are great, prices on a par with normal hotel prices. The food in the bar is excellent too, we ate in the restaurant at night and the food was good too but we had some grub in the bar after golf on the Monday and the food we thought was better in there. If you can get a decent deal then go for it.

As a lot of posts have said, there is a fair bit of water hazzards on the course. It's a nice knock, though, I really enjoy it whenever I play there. Food afterwards in the bar is ace too!

I played it about 3 weeks ago and it was in decent nick considering the weather we've had.

You'll Enjoy it.
