Watching the Shell Houston Open.
Anthony Kim hit a drive which went well left towards the gallery.
Why didn't he or any of his entourage shout Fore?
The result was that the ball directly hit a lady (steward I believe) squarely. I can imagine the pain she felt.

Basic course etiquette demands that a warning be given for any wayward shots. Are professionals above this guideline? It annoys me that Kim carried on regardless. He did apologise but nevertheless, surely a warning shout should have been made.

On our 17th at the weekend, i hit my 2nd shot to the green which i pushed right a bit towards the 18th tee...

I shouted "fore" as loud as possible.... one of the lads on the tee just turned round and looked at me, never ducked or anything. he had no idea where the ball was... just looked at me. The ball missed his head by no more than a foot!

Walked past him and said sorry. He had no idea why i was shouting or that he had almost been clobbered by a high flying golf ball!

Don't think so mate. The ball hit her around the chest area!

Doesn't matter where the ball hit her, the point is that there was no shout or signal from the tee.

I agree it's bad etiquette but in a tournament like that it would also be bad if someone was just making their putt on the green 50 feet from you as you screamed "Fore left by the trees!!!"

There are enough crowds that someone further down the fairway (marshal or ball spotter) should be saying "It's coming this way!!!".

bloody disgracefull if you ask me. We are all aware of the damage a ball at speed can do. There is plenty of time to feel hacked off after the cry of FORE!. Ego time again though dictates that pro golfers are too good to have to shout FORE. What a load of rubbish, he may have won but lets not forget the fact that he hacked his way around the course with one of the worst displays of driving I have ever seen from any pro golfer.

This is the second time I have seen Kim do it, first time the fella had his head split open, Kim gave him a signed glove and some other stuff, but all he had to do is shout fore! I think they are scared to shout incase people duck and lose their ball! jokers!!

I think most players these days rely on marshalls to point which way the ball is heading you dont generally here the golfer shout fore they usually just point, they also have ball spotters. As for the worst driving ever surely its about getting it in the hole,he has just won a fortune,i would be happy with that.

Didn't see that incident but I have noticed a few players recently who seem to think that instead of shouting fore it is OK to simply point in the direction of the wayward shot with their driver with no shout.

John Hawksworth said at the time they dont shout simply to let the ball hit somebody if it's heading deep into the crap and they wont it stopped.

A disgrace as all others have said.

I think its a common problem within the pro game on both sides of the Atlantic and that players won't shout in the hope it'll hit someone and remain playable. I'm waiting for the day when someone sues a top player for not shouting. That should open up a can of worms

In all the pro interviews in a rival magazine (ahem), they always ask a series of quickfire questions, one if which is "if the ball is going towards the crowd, would you rather it a) Misses everyone, and goes OOB, or b) Hits someone, and pops back out into play", or words to that effect.

I've never seen any of them answer a)...
