For Trekkies out there

Was a big fan as a kid.

Good documentary on R4 last night about the cultural significance of Star Trek offering a vision of a better future, and making some metaphorical points about the present, at a time when despite the national and world turmoil TV in the USA was rather boring and safe.

Great story about how Martin Luther King (no less) told Nichelle Nichols (Lt Uhura) not to leave the series as she was a unique role model on US TV at the time.

Also George Takei explaining how Mr Sulu broke down the stereotype current at the time that Asians were bad drivers! Sulu was the best driver in the Universe!

Struggled with ToS, TNG was the pinnacle, VOY and DS9 are my favs though.

Never a big fan of ENT but it was OK IMO.

The modern films? Non canon IMO

VOY had the worst ending of any TV series EVER. If the Borg have inter-spacial conduits, how come they haven't just turned up on Earth's doorstep and wiped out humanity? And as for the actual ending ... "It'll all be in my report" - utter garbage. Clear off back to the Delta Quadrant. TNG was at its best for Series 3-5 with Darmok, Yesterday's Enterprise and The Inner Light being the best three episodes in my book.
