Hi all, have been lurking around quietly, spying on you all and wondering if I should make the leap and say hello. So, Hello.

New(ish) to the game, having first hit my dads (left handed) clubs when I were but a school boy and then nothing for the last 15 years. After pressure from work to stop turning down the golf days, enjoying lunch time computer game challenges and missing out on rounds (sorry) of conversation down the pub, I resolved to learn the game.

Started with a lesson on honeymoon (didn't go down too well, but need to set my stall out early) which got me hitting balls fairly quickly.

Have since been down one of the local ranges once a week or so to practice what I was taught (and have read on here) and after picking myself up some clubs from e-bay have started to hit things with a little consistency.

Ventured on to a course for the first time on Friday and played 9 with the brother in law and a drinking buddy and although we didn't keep score after my first miss hit 8 shots on the 1st (much harder in the 'real world'!!) I managed to win my 3rd ever hole on a track and picked up a couple of others later on.

Hope to pop in here as regular as work allows and get to know you all better, you seem a friendly bunch.

I did not shoot that deputy. Honest Guv.

The name came from when I first started work in construction. The project manager was called Martin, as am I, and so I became known as Baby Martin, which soon became MarMar, it never went away... :D

Hi,

We played at Warwick, inside the race course, was very very wet, probably shouldn't have been open, most of the puddles were frozen too.

I didn't lose any balls which was something of a surprise, expected to come back with oh, none of the 24 I took.

Oh, and thanks for the welcomes!

Welcome and congrats on getting HID use to you golfing. I suggest giving her a picture of yourself for Christmas as you will not be seeing much of her now what with the time you will spend on here (I know you say you are only popping onto the PC to browse but you'll still be there an hour later) and the games you can get to play with fellow members.

Its good that you are practicing hard but I would advise you to get some regular lessons to make sure you get the basics sorted and don't get into any bad habits. Its much better to start with the right things and work on them rather than come into golf with loads of swing issues that never go away (like me!)

Enjoy on here!!

Thanks Guys,

2nd lesson booked for Thursday night, think I've taken what I've learned from the first as far as I can. I can more or less hit the ball now, but have come to the conclusion that while I can catch some very cleanly and just as I want, I can't do it often enough, or know what I've done differently when I do, and the only way to get that awareness and fine tuning is through some lessons from my friendly local pro.

And no need to get her a photo of me for christmas, she's still got plenty from the wedding, best use the money on something golfy. I could have her name stenciled on some balls, so that she's always with me...
