Whilst in Florida last Oct, I picked up a couple of pairs of Footjoy Classics Dry Premier shoes, - Factory Blemishes, but a helluva good price @ $160ish.
They are absolutely pristine apart from one small mark on the heel of one shoe, nothing more than you'd pick up within the first wear or 2 etc.

Have left them in the boxes till now, with the intention of selling one pair perhaps, but in all honesty, I just cant do it, they are fantastic and I have yearned for some for years !!

Have now worn the Black pair twice however, and a tad miffed

The first wear for 9 holes went without hitch, uber comfy & warm, and fantastic support & stability.

But, last saturday wore them for 18holes, a totally dry day apart from a heavy dew inevitably. Again super comfy, improving all the round, BUT......

.....by the time I finished, the outer edge of the shoes which is closest to the sole etc, was a tad damp, and on taking them off, there was definitely slight dampness across the soles under the ball of my feet.

Ive emailed FJ about this, as I understood all Classics have a 2yr Waterproof guarantee, and to be fair, they have send send back for examination etc.

The other pair are still BNIB, yet to be worn, so no idea if same problem may occur.

FJ have recently announced that they are stopping making Classics apparently, which is a real shame, but perhaps 'total leather' cant be relied upon in these days of super synthetic materials ?

Anyone else have Classics ??

Yep, I have 4 pairs (3 premieres, and one set of tours). I can't say that any of them are overly waterproof. The worst of them is a black pair of Classic tours, which have plastic soles. These leak like a sieve. Always have. A shame really, as I thought they would be ideal for winter use.

I keep a pair of dryjoys for paddling about in the wet, and use my classics in the dry. I love the build quality, the leather, the style, the support they give your foot, but waterproof, they are not.

Update: To be fair, Jeremy @ FJ has asked me to send them in for a leak test, and offered to replace them if any issue, but they dont stock the same shoe over here. :-(

Tempted to keep them for summer use only, hopefully when its dry !

I have used dryjoy and dryjoy pods and never had a problem. My old style brogues are about ten years old and only let the water in as the leather is finally beginning to crack but until last year they were still going strong.

No offence intended, but are you sure the damp wasn't caused by sweaty feet? Not saying that you have sweaty feet per se, but when I bought my first pair of FJ Aqualites a couple of years back, I too noticed that there were damp patches in them, was informed that it was sweat caused by the manmade linings inside!!

Your feet do sweat more in classics (they are quite heavy), but, they leak round the edges, so it is evident the shoes leak, not sweaty feet.

I will add to the above and suggest it may be sweat.

I got a pair of FJ's a couple of months ago and found them to be all the things you said, after my rounds though my feet are slightly damp and I was a bit cross, turns out, it was just sweat.

The shoes are so well sealed, after 18 holes your feet are bound to perspire and there is no where for it to go.

I also do not suffer sweaty feet usually

There are days when it is wet, that I could pour the water out of my Tours. I have seen tea bags that are more waterproof. I have now bought some waterproof socks to wear with them.

I'm left with a puzzle now,
1. Return them for testing at FJ, and possible replacement, but with another model as the one I have isnt available over here.
(and they wont send me the leaky one's back too - just for summer !)

Or,
2. Just keep them for Summer use......

My experience with Premieres is that the next ones won't be waterproof either. Try it and see. If you really like the design of yours, keep them for dry use only. If you aren't fussed at getting something different, chop them in.

Some of these must be ok, as I have a mate who has a pair, and they are fine. He must have the only pair.

To me, if you want waterproof shoes, dryjoys are the best.

I do think dryjoys are the way to go. I've a friend who bought the Darren Clarke shoes (Sturbart I think) which were pretty similar to the FJ classics and his leaked almost within a week of getting them. Sent them back and got a replacement and the same thing happened. Got a 3rd pair and was told they could find no design defect. The 3rd pair leaked and he ended up in a pair of adidas.
