My FJ AQL's have failed on their waterproofing, within guarantee thankfully, and as the original place I bought them from no longer stock them they have sent me a refund. I have a fancy for spikeless shoes as people keep talking about the comfort side of them and I do like a comfy pair of shoes. I don't have a bottomless budget but the shoes must be waterproof as I will wear them all year round. I have wide feet which tends to rule out Adidas versions so the front runner at the moment are the FJ AWD Contour Casuals. Anyone have these? How have you found them?

Not the contours but I have the AWD Casuals and they are good, comfy and give a good amount of grip when conditions suit. I wouldnt wear them in proper wet conditions though, I use Hydrolites for when its a bit softer underfoot.
Overall they do a decebt job, not sure how they differ to the Contours though.

I think I probably meant the AWD Casuals. Thanks for that.

I have had a pair of AWD casuals since last Xmas and the have performed well under all conditions. On frosty mornings I found them to be good and they don't get ice balls like spikes do. Also good in the wet, my course is never heavy or muddy so don't know what they would be like under these conditions.

I have a pair of Contour Casuals. Don't know if they are "AWD" - is that possibly some other design? Anyhow, they are definitely the most comfortable shoes I have - more comfy even than my Ecco Streets. It's almost like wearing a pair of slippers.

However they are certainly not waterproof. But then again, neither are my Softjoys, or my Ecco Hydromaxs, or even my Footjoy winter boots.

What is it with golf shoes that leak? The only pair I ever had that were properly waterproof were the first ones I ever bought (Footjoys of some sort - don't recall the name) about 15 years ago. I've tried using dubbin, but that only works for a short time. I'm reduced to always wearing SealSkins during winter.

Thanks. I normally find Adidas too narrow but they may be worth looking at.

Mate's Contour casuals have also failed within warranty. Bought in March and used about once a week.

I've got a pair of Aididas Gripmores. First pair of Adidas that actually fit well, fat feet, and are really comfortable. I usually buy a size bigger in Adidas but these are 'normal' size and width.

Think I got them reduced from £79 to £59 @ Tim Jenkins golf... definitely worth a punt

Adidas Gripmores are the best shoes I have ever had - very comfy

It is all very disappointing. My first shoes were FJ Greenjoys and they were totally waterproof for about 3-4 years. I bought another pair after that but they felt cheap in comparison, presume costs were cut in production, and they were a disappointment both in terms of comfort and how long they lasted before water came in. After that I went through 3 pairs of Stuburts that all failed, repeatedly returned and replaced, and I then went back to FJ with their AQL's. They have failed after 10 months hence why I am looking now. I accept water coming over the top but that has not been the case.

I suppose the thing to do is buy from your local pro / nearby big chain and keep your receipt. A bit of a pain and disappointing. Maybe I'll have to go down the Sealskin route as well although my wife may well ask why are you buying waterproof socks to go inside your waterproof shoes?

I really do feel that golf shoe quality is falling across the board. The days of a pair lasting 3 or 4 years seem to have gone. Waterproofing seems to be a particular issue but think part of that is shoes being designed for warmer climates than the UK. Also feel that the quest for ever lighter shoes has come at the cost of durability

I am disappointed that FJ seem to be making shoes that are poorer in quality especially going on the amount of people on here with issues. Touch wood I've not had any issues but it does make me question whether my next pair should still be FJ. Of course being a "myjoy" whore and enjoying custom designed shoes, it does leave an issue where to go next.

Martin who do you order your myjoys through

After all this there was enough doubt in my mind to put my off spikeless for another year. The more reviews I read the more doubts I had. After having 4 pairs of shoes fail in 2 years I wanted to make sure that this next pair stood the test of time in terms of waterproofing and also grip. I do spend a bit of time in the semi and so perhaps spikeless are not the shoe for me as long as they remain the only pair that I will be using. I ended up going for a pair of Puma Spark 2 shoes from Clubhouse Golf. They come with a 2yr waterproof warantee, yup, read that again 2yrs, and were £50. They must be pretty confident about build quality if they give a 2yr warantee so I went down that road. I have seen people in Puma's recently and all were very complimentary about comfort as well so hopefully they will work out.

I think the AWD casuals look lovely shoes and would be ideal as a summer shoe. I'm just not yet 100% convinced of this style as an all year round shoe, yet. Perhaps they are not really meant to be to be fair.

Not sure its as cut and dried as that. My comment around not an all year shoe for me is due to my course being hilly and can get wet around the hills and have seen a few slips caused by spikeless shoes.
Lots of others say they trust them all year. Its more about how well the ground copes with conditions IMO.
