I'm with you. It seems an awful lot of money for waterproofs. I'd be wanting to go trout fishing in the middle of the river for that price.

I have always rated Footjoy waterproofs very highly for both quality and performance. Their existing XP Tour jacket also had a RRP of £200. However, this can now be found online for about £150/£160.
However, I do agree that the cost of this type of clothing seems to be increasing and like the original post, I don't think I could justify paying that much.
For another £40 or so you could get a Galvin Green jacket, who are thought by many to be the market leader in waterproofs.

Is it really worth that much ? Yes and no, I justified paying over £200 for my Galvin Green coat by telling myself it's not just for golf. In essence it's not. I use it for when its bladdering it down on the course but take it away with me when goin away for weekends. It's as light as a feather and looks like I bought it yesterday. Two year old.. Washes no probs an Missis T don't have to iron it.
it was a special Crimbo treat. So yes it's worth it but .

flippin expensive.

Which leads me on to the next phase of the question. If you can get a GG jacket for an extra £40 which has Goretex and a lifetime warranty, is FJ really pushing their luck with the cost of these jackets given that they only have a 3 year warranty and no Goretex? I'd love to get that grey jacket, but there is no way I'm shelling out that kind of money.

Best thing I bought was a zip up waterproof england rugby wet weather top. It is Nike cost £50 in the sale is breathable waterproof and just about indestructable. Had it 7 years now and used it at everything from golf to metal festivals and it is still as good as new

Exactly - smart looking waterproofs but lack of goretex makes them overpriced IMO

My first GG jacket is now 8yrs old and still going strong. Might be expensive to buy but as it lasts so long its value for money. Sadly, it appears to have shrunk a little in the wardrobe  and is now used for walking the dog/going shopping.
