Stepped back in time today and went to a municipal where I played my first ever round of golf - Harborne Church Farm GC, Birmingham. For those that don't know it - its a small 9 hole track with a par 66 (of course going round the track twice).

Anyway, was great to play it again having not done so for a few years and nice to see how much better I've got since I first played there at the age of about 12, ten years ago. Front nine went well and been as though the course was really quiet we stopped for a ten minute loo break, bite to eat before starting the back 9.

On approaching what is the 5th/14th Par 3, we noticed on the next hole a group of young lads in football kits, tossing footballs up into the air etc. Now, we know that the course has been closed in the past due to this FootGolf event which hasn't been a problem. But what was a problem today was that we got stuck behind this mob for the last few holes and we found them wandering all over the greens hoofing leather cased balls about. I know some municipals are struggling for money etc - but there must be a better way to generate extra funds rather than turning a golf course into a football pitch.....

I hope the condition of the course doesn't get affected. But the way they were just running over greens - its only a matter of time....

What are your thoughts on FootGolf???

Never tried it and dont intend to. Football is played on football pitches, golf on golf courses.

Good point!

I was also a little disappointed the Pro didn't mention that there would be people turning up to participate. We tried to play the course the other week and from the outset we were told that the 'golf' course was closed due to a 'football' event on a 'golf' course......

Played Footgolf last weekend it used to be a 9 hole course and it went bust, so they turned it into an 18 hole footgolf course. Ten of us played and it was great fun.

Can image its a pain if golf and footgolf is on the same course though.

It wasn't a massive problem - but I just can just foresee some potential problems with it all. They were a bit rowdy with the usual 'banter' floating about which was a bit off putting - when putting..... (see what I did there ;))

Local range and 9 hole course has put a 6 hole footgolf course but as a separate course rather than combining it. Was good fun but I can see that there would be problems combining the 2.

Nothing against football either, I'm a massive Birmingham City fan but just no to football on a golf course....

Only a matter of time I think before it all ends in tears when some footballer gets bonked on the head with a big drive.....
