am i to assume (correctly or incorrectly)that as a 'long' putter a softer ball would help distance control.if so has anyone changed balls and found a vast improvement in their putting or am i clutching at straws....all help really appreciated still seeking that elusive sub 100 round.ta

This might be absolute roll***s, but I have a theory that a nice soft ball is more "even" in distance than a brick-like ball. I've played "distance" balls most of my golfing life and there is one problem with them i.m.o. They are all very well, but on the odd one, they come off the putter at a silly speed.....and fly past. I don't seem to get this with 1/2 and 1/2 balls....
Can't explain any more.....

I was told on here when shooting in the 90s to dump the warbird and play with a soft ball, I took the advice and now shoot in the low 80s and high 70s, there is no point driving 270+ yards and being in the rough, its better to drive short and be where you want to be and have a ball thats more responsive around the greens.

softer balls like pro vs go further than so called distance balls if you have the clubhead spped to compress them so its best of both worlds

been using the callaway big bertha, callaway hx, callaway cb1,titleist pts solo, nike t1 velocity, nike 4, nike 1, srixon 2 and molitor 2 titanium power. havent a clue if any of these are rated at all but i do know my drives with the callaways have increased from 230/40 to 270/80...which is nice and they cost 30p each off a golfing friend off e bay (he bought 100's)so bunged me a few. have i got a soft one among them and if not could you recommend a reasonably priced 'softie'.cheers

Yes, sure, but a ball that spins more is actually going to find the rough more often.

f.w.i.w. I shot my best ever rounds with Bay Hill Titanium balls that were badged a "distance" ball.

I found a Cally big bertha ball the other night, played 18 with it and was quite impressed. For a budget ball, it was pretty good. I normally use Prov1s, and wouldn't change, and don't like the more expensive Callys, but this one was ok.

Molitors are not worth putting in the bag by the way.

I tried the Pro Vee's and didn't find them that impressive, certainly not worth £32 a dozen, but if the people who do use them keep loosing them like I am finding them I have no problems ;)

Srixon AD333 all the way, for me there is not a ball in the range that comes close to it. :)

At one time the Big Bertha ball was anything but a budget ball, though now they are getting a bit long in the tooth. The blue ones were the best but now they only do the red. Still a very good aball and only slightly more than a Warbird ball.
