Hi all
just following up on this thread re the questions for Titleist about golf balls that we asked at their recent ball launch video here

The questions we used from forumers were posted by...

BTatHome - Question ref why only limited yellow balls in the product line
Captianron - Question ref why is important to play the right type of ball
Amanda JR - Question ref why don't Titleist produce a female specific ball
DCB - Question ref how far in advance to the R&D teams work on new models

We also used a question from a Facebook user about what input they get from Tour pros in the R&D process and do they every use amateur for testing

If the four forumers above can take themselves through the online ball-fitting process http://www.titleist.co.uk/golf-ball-fitting/app/ and then email me to let me know what they are fitted for (plus home address) then I'll get Titleist to send you a dozen of the best ball for your game

Just did the Titleist online ball fitting questions, 3 times using different answers, and each time it appears my best ball is the (most expensive) ProV1/x

Now there's a surprise

This is a common comment and I have to say until I went to the ball launch something that had confused me a little.

However, once I'd heard the product presentations I now better understand their philosophy (we have done a piece in the next issue on this by the way)....

Titleist says that the best ball for any golfer (whatever your handicap, age, swing speed gender etc etc) is ProV1 or ProV1X (the later if you are after low spin off the driver, long irons) because those models offer the best spin and control which in turn gives you the best chance of getting the ball close to the flag, which in turn gives you the best chance of shooting a better score

However...they do of course accept that not everyone can afford an RRP of £50 a dozen so in that case they'd advise you to go down to the ball model that you can afford ie NXT Tour/NXT TourS then Velocity/DT Solo - at each level there's a ball that is softer and one that's longer

It is all explained here http://www.titleist.co.uk/golf-ball-fitting/ but appreciate its quite a long read!

OK but how can you call it a ball fitting if it is always going to come up as one of 2 options. Now I am not a massive fan of Titleist balls, at least have not been in the past, but the Velocity seems a decent fit for me. Won a sleeve of ProV1s the other week and they were all over the shop and given to my playing partner.

I have no problem with Titleist stating that everyone's best ball is a ProV of some kind (though I disagree) but do not call it a fitting when the other options do not form part of the equation.

With regards the ball fitting I'd certainly agree it could be more clearly indicated - perhaps in the form of a flow chart type arrangement - to say that if you don't want to pay top dollar for ProV1, or want a yellow ball, or want a ball that focuses on all out distance - then here are the other options.
