playing in our winter league today, 7:30 tee off and into thick fog!! You could see for about 50 yards then nothing.. As long as you could catch the line of the shot you was ok but any shots into the green was all guess work.

I was striking the ball well just struggled in these conditions. I know we all had to play in the same conditions but i feel cheesed off :(

Teed off 7.15, hit my hybrid twice and 4 wood twice otherwise all irons off the tee. It's hard enough looking for my ball without the fog!

But playing like this I was on the fairway most of the time as I was just trying to keep straight and narrow.

Feeling your pain bigfoot.

I wrote the following last night;

Planning a little lie in, quick shower, a bit of scoff, then off up to the course for a leisurely round. I've bloody well earned it! :)
Weather forecast looking pretty good, a bit fresh but dry with some sunshine. Can't bloody wait!

Bloody fog sorted that one out for me. Oh well, maybe next weekend!!!

Played in the fog a couple of weeks back and although we were very careful about anyone infront - even walking 100 yards down the fairway to make sure it was clear - there were plenty who didn't and we nearly got hit a couple of times.
The club should really close the course if you can't see properly.

Belton Park GC have fog poles on either side of the first fairway 150 yds from the yellow tee.
If you cant see them from the tee, you dont play.

Supposed to be playing winter league this morning, thick fog, so back home for some more gardening.:( We don't play if you can't see fairway bunker on the first, but today couldn't see the fairway 50 yards away.

Teed off at about 8.00 in the end. Fog was thick and suprised the course wasnt closed but plenty of shouting to let people know fairway / green was clear and seemed to be working.

We walked up to the 10th and played the back 9 first with no-one else around and fog was clear for back (front) 9.

As above it actually helped me in a way to play a bit more cautiously than normal and keep the ball in play.:)

Our winter league game got called off after 9 holes. Start was delayed by 45 mins but you still only had 60 yards sighting distance. It was great fun when I connected with one on the first and said it would be on the green. Approaching the green, there it was 6ft from the pin. Shame I cant do that when I can see the green.

Course closed all day. Health and safety. Ten years ago, no one would have thought any thing of playing. Now, not allowed. Powers that be wetting themselves in case someone gets hurt. I'd rather play, as long as people are sensible, can't see the problem. Done it for years.

Thing is, ten years ago, it you were hit by a golf ball there would be apologies, a shake of the hand and off you went. There was no talk about 'liabilty' 'blame' and 'claim'. Now there is every chance of litigation and so no risks can be taken.

At my place there has been fog every weekend for the last 3 weeks. The course has never been closed but I have felt at times that it should have been or at least they should have stopped any further groups coming out until it lifted. I would have walked in on a couple of occasions if it were not for the fact that doing so would have been more dangerous if the horn had not been sounded to stop play.

well its up to the starter but my course is firmly closed until the starter ok's it. Can you imagine hitting a drive into fog and there's maybe a 4 ball standing there- irresponsible of a course to let people play especially in light of the recent court case.

Our club pro stops play if he cant see a fairway bunker that is 260 yards from the first tee.

Considering that guy that had the £300K fine for hitting someone recently and the fact that someone lost an eye it's understandable to close the course if the fog is bad. Frustrating though when you have made the effort to get to the club.

Played in really thick fog today and actually found I was more accurate off the tee when aiming to a rough area rather than a specific target. Played really well tee to green but my putting let me down so ended up 1 over for my handicap.

We have fog poles on the 10th (outside the pro shop) and behind the green on the 1st. Not allowed to go out if these can't CLEARLY be seen. Doesn't stop a few idiots wandering out regardless. I wanted to get a game in early this morning as I was doing something this afternoon but course was shut waiting for the fog to lift so headed for the range
