I hit a drive today and the clubhead flew 50 yards down the fairway . It's a Callaway X Hot.I took it back to the registered dealer and he says he'll get it repaired on Monday.Anyone else experienced this and are they reliable?

Have seen and heard a few rattling X Hot Drivers. Something to do with the glue breaking? Never seen a head fly off mind. Would put me off buying another Callaway driver for sure!

Surely it would be the same for any of the replaceable shaft clubs...
If the glue on the adaptor fails then the head's coming off whether its a Callaway, Ping, Nike ,Titleist etc etc etc....
Same if the glue fails on a fixed head club..
Once re-glued it shouldn't be a problem.

Mate had a G25 snap on him that would have gone down the fairway - unlike his ball. Ping replaced it.

I've had a rattle develop in an FT3 that was probable caused by the residue of the plastic sole plate - that broke, probably from a couple of 'drop-kick' swings on frozen ground - coming loose - fixed by squirting 'hot-melt' into head and catching object.

And lost 4-iron head of my Vegas on first swing of year a while ago. Bounced down fairway into frozen lake then down 'hole' made by reeds/rushes never to be seen again!

Tip weight came loose and rattled in TM LCGs many years ago. A simple case of disassembling, then re-gluing and re-assembling. Whole club felt more solid after that!

As Imurg posted, not a huge problem to get fixed - if you have head and shaft - but an inconvenience all the same.

I had the same thing with my old X Hot pro driver. Nothing to do with the manufacturer in my case a Grieg;)

Came off on the only tee with a massive patch of gorse in from of it.

I lost the head from a Hickory shafted 3 iron down a driving range. They stopped everyone so I could get it!

Also once had a 3 wood head fly off, land in a pond and float to the middle, taunting me!

When you clean your clubs is the water too hot? I know someone who melted the glue on all of his clubs ;-)

No, I only use tepid water.

I think Davey's comment was tongue in cheek. Heads are typically held on with a two part epoxy of some type. Heat will cause it to fail but only much hotter than washing water (think blow torch rather than hair-dryer!).

I have broken epoxy on a 5 year old club after steeping in HOT water.
Ferrules go very easily but heads can too.

Got the club back yesterday. Bit disappointed the dealer I bought it from never even offered me a box of balls, after it cost me 80 miles in petrol to take my club to him and pick it up, not to mention the time.

They must have put extra super glue in the hosel. The ex broken driver helped me win the longest drive and best gross score at Stoneleigh Deerpark yesterday in our society day out.
