Just booked up for Florida in the summer. I've been a few times recently but was wondering if anyone had any courses or websites etc to recommend? I'll be driving when I'm there and I don't mind travelling if it's worth it. I've already played at the following:

Kissimmee Oaks
Shingle Creek
Grande Pines
Falcon's Fire
Celebration
Disney Magnolia
Hunter's Creek
Metro West
Windermere

I stayed at Grande Pines a couple of years back. Very forgiving course set in a pine tree lined condo estate, lots of fairly wide fways and pine cone roughage under the trees. No water. Excellent staff. Good shop. Nice practice area. Very good hire equipment.

A lot of Orlando golf is very forgettable. Even high price courses like Grand Cypress.

For my money, the best courses available to the average punter were at Orange County National. Champions Gate was also pretty good. If you are prepared to travel a bit Southern Dunes and if you are prepared to travel a bit further, World Woods. If you can get on Bay Hill or one of the private courses, those are also much better than the resort courses.

I was in Florida a few weeks ago, staying just north of Tampa. About an hour drive north were 2 courses at a complax called World Woods. Probably a bit further from Orlando but well worth the drive. The two courses are called Rolling Oaks, easier of the two and Pine Barrens. Pine Barrens has no bunkers!! just huge sandy waste areas :) These two courses are more like the courses I have found in the Atlanta area, definately not your typical Florida courses.

Another good course I played was the South course at Lake Jovita. This is used as a qualifying course for the US Tour School.

The best course in Florida that I've played is Old Corkscrew, which is on the West Gulf Coast (2.5hrs cross country from Miami. It's a long way from Orlando, so if that's where you're staying, apologies.

The Legends course at Orange Lakes, Orlando, was fantastic some 10 years ago.

Have you booked a package holiday or separates, villa / flights/ car?, and why ? I'm looking at booking separately as it appears cheaper

Cheers guys, I'll look into the places you've mentioned.

We're using the gf's parents timeshare apartment so that was free :D flights were £700 each (extra leg room) from Thomas Cook and car hire from CareHire3000 was £250...last year we paid £500 for the car because I wanted a Mustang :D

Agree played about 10 years ago as well.

Let's hope it still is, I'm off to Orange Lake in April with the missus and my clubs. I'll report back and let you know if it's still up to scratch

I'm just back from Florida this afternoon having had a wonderful week of golf. The weather was perfect ranging between 78* and 84*. The courses were in excellent condition for the time of year and greens varied from fast to ballistic!
We played the following courses:-

Highland Reserve.

And Diamond Back

All courses were superb, but my personal favourites had to be Timacuan and Diamond Back with Eagle Creek a close third.

Sounds like you had a great time.

That's a lot of courses though, did you have time for anything else?

We go to play golf. We did manage a couple of hours shopping, and a few beers, but as My course has been closed since November there was some catching up to do. :D :D
