flop shoot anyone do it

I will tend to use some variant of flop shot when there is a hazard or obstacle in the way. The result is generally good as I practice this shot a lot. The key is in being committed to the shot and a full follow through. Punch it or hold back on the follow through and you will more than likely hit it a bit too soft and go nowhere.

I love it, but I need the right lie to do it, sat up nicely so I can get the club right under the ball. Anything else then it becomes a long drive competition!

Very rarely. It needs the right lie and commitment. Get it wrong and it will turn a possible bogey into a double...

It is a last resort shot, not one to be played by choice. Very risky option and if there is no hazard to go over, it's pointless.

Same for me as the other guys, when its the only shot available and the lie is right I don't have any hesitation. You do need to be confident and totally committed though.

I can do it with a three wood off the tee.

I play it quite regularily, as I prefer a full shot to a half shot any day. We have a lot of raised greens so it can be the only option if you want to get close. Wouldn't play it unless it is a good lie, and never off a tight one. Handy shot for when you miss our 18th green right.

I love it! Play it regularly, from every lie, it rarely goes wrong and when it does it's normally too short rather than a thin. I only use my 60* wedge and I've ground the sole so I have two effective bounce angles.
I practice it a lot as I have a tiny garden and I can practice flopping balls over the trees next to it. It's a great shot to practice and even better to use on the course.

I can play it and sometimes it goes well... As others say usually I look for a fluffy lie and use it to clear an obstacle or get on an elevated green rather than just an alternative to short chip/bump and run shots with no obstacle.

Over the years I've hit some absolutely quality lobs - even Eagled a Par 5 with one when I had 2 yards fo green over a bunker to play with...

of course I've also hit way more than my fair share of distasters too.........

A flop out of foot deep Heather - that would have been special!
No - trying to beat the damn thing out of the Heather...!!
Caught it as clean as a clean thing in Cleansville, Arizona.....
I was aiming for the bunker!

Fluffy lie. Obstacle right in front. Very precise landing area behind the obstacle and danger if you go past the hole. Yes I would probably take on a flop if there isn't a less risky route to get up and down.
